Another 4 years of the RWers with free-reign would've finished us. For that, I'm extremely grateful and happy. That is enough to be tremendously thankful for. (So even though I'll be broke, I'll be very thankful this Thanksgiving... which I didn't feel very much for most of the last 28 years.)
So contrary to most people, I have very low expectations. I have high hopes. But nothing President Obama could do, could be one-zillionth as bad as what we were facing yesterday. For that, I will always think well of him and give him due credit, no matter what else comes from this, or doesn't.
I know he has the potential to be a brilliant President. But I certainly don't need that to feel victorious and relieved today. I will continue to.
I'm also very grateful to every single person everywhere who voted for him... and to those in other countries who lent "moral support" and encouragement to us as well.
We dodged a bullet. That's all. But that's a lot. Thank goodness we dodged at least THIS one, this time... because millions of us are hanging onto survival by a thread, and very beaten up.
I believe he knows this and hears us, and I intend to trust whatever he can see to do about it... because that's more than we would've had otherwise. Yes, I'll continue to lend my voice to steering him in a liberal New Deal-ish direction. But I for one, realize that the guillotine over my neck was stayed last night. And I'll not forget it.
