Apparently, we lost Vietnam because Smirk wasn't there....
An NBC Nightly News video from September 8th, features a clip, circa 1988, of Connie Chung interviewing Dubya regarding the flap over Dan Quayle's National Guard service.

In it Boy George says, "If you want to go in the National Guard, I guess sometimes people make calls. I don't see anything wrong with it. They prolly should have called the National Guard up in those days. Maybe we woulda done better in Vietnam."

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5952048/

"Bush's Guard record scrutinized."

Somehow, I think Vietnam Vets would find Emperor George's statement offensive.

1. That's finesse and charm, alright.
And this man lives at the White House.
And some people approve of that.
Hurts my brain.

6. Another Bush lie . . .
"It was obvious that somewhere I would have to serve and I was fully prepared to do so," said Bush, whose father was a decorated fighter pilot in World War II. The 42-year-old son said he, too, wanted to be a pilot.

"I heard the National Guard was looking for pilots," he said. He called Staudt, who confirmed the unit did need new pilots. Bush said he could not remember how he learned of the need for pilots or knew to call Staudt, but that ultimately he became the third of six new pilots who were selected in that Texas unit.

He said he passed the pilot training exam, then served 18 months on active duty, six months in Houston and another 12 months of pilot training in Georgia where he flew F102 fighters, then flew on a regular basis until 1973.

Bush said he supported the Vietnam cause and he "jumped at the opportunity" to be a pilot, joining the Guard because he could not be assured a pilot job in the other military branches.

AP - August 24, 1988

We know that Bush lied in his 1999 book about his service, claiming to have flown with his unit for "several years" after completing training. Obviously, however, he has repeatedly lied about this - we now know that he did NOT fly "on a regular basis until 1973."

Bush barely flew in 72

Bush never flew in 72 (?)

not at all in 73; that's for certain

do the dems know about this?

things are starting to look Willie Hortonish round about now

getting serious

this story needs to get up and start walking AROUND!

11. This is the kind of information we need to collect...
and expose; an interview with Dubya himself, well-documented, no hearsay. If we can put all of these "little" lies together, it could have a impact.

8. Hmmm. Somehow I doubt that the National Guard...
was having any trouble finding young men who wanted to be pilots, when the alternative was Vietnam. Bush makes it sound like he was doing the Guard a favor.

12. And I doubt any of the other branches turning pilots away
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 09:41 AM by mbali
I'm sure if Bush pulled some strings, he could have become a pilot in any branch he wanted. Of course, if Bush had signed up as a pilot in the Air Force or Navy or Army or Marines, he might actually have ended up being a pilot in Vietnam.

Bush didn't join the National Guard to be a pilot as he claimed then. He joined to keep his ass out of Vietnam/

9. Nah even his commander said they needed better guys than Bush
Killian memo, Aug 1, 1972

"On this date I order that 1st Lt. Bush be suspended from flight status due to failure to perform to USAF/TexasANG standards and failure to annual physical examination (flight) as ordered:

"...On recommendation of Harris, I also suggested that we fill this critical billet with a more seasoned pilot from the list of qualified Vietnam pilots which have rotated."

*****

Little pr*ck went off to party while a guy who'd ALREADY SERVED in VIETNAM and rotated home had to do his job for him.
