19. I voted in Springfield, Virginia and I was out at 6:20 w/ about 200 ahead of me
My polling station was a school and they had it pretty organized with apparently no problems on the machines and lots of paper ballots.

5. Asking why it happens in big cities is pretty silly.
Because if you're voting in a town with like 10,000 people living in it having 10,000 people show up at one polling station to vote is a little tiny bit unlikely.

They should still be better prepared in the larger population centers of course, but why it happens there is fairly obvious.

6. If we lose VA, it will be due to these lines.
Does anyone have to stand in line in 'Real Virginia'?

11. Only to an extent.
People should NOT have to chose between standing in line for hours and not voting, and DON'T in less-populated Republican-leaning areas.

Face it, not everyone is as fired-up about this election as the people on this board. This means that the low-motivation McCain voter will still vote, while the low-motivation Obama voter will not, and that is fundamentally unfair.

13. This is too important to cry about long lines, ok?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 11:05 AM by Essene
NObody is arguing that it's not annoying and pathetic, but to assume it's all some conspiracy and to start wallowing in paralysis is the REAL danger.

Folks going to vote need to appreciate the OPPORTUNITY to stand in LINE all DAY if they MUST... to change history.

:)

That must be our message.

18. It doesn't matter if it's by accident or design,
long lines = less Obama votes.

Obama's people on the ground in the swing states should be pushing hard for more voting machines, extended hours, etc.

8. If I were a freeper and wanted to discourage folks from voting in VA ...

I'd post something like this.

Polls haven't been open for 5 hours. There were 300+ people ahead of me at 6:00 AM in at my polling place in VA. The wait was only 25 minutes, and it decreased as the early crowd got through - very efficient.

There will be a category 5 hurricane in Virginia today - everyone take shelter - must be true, I read it on the Internet.

Please - VOTE!

15. Roland Martin on CNN yesterday said that in Africa...a 91-year-old woman died...
...while waiting in the sweltering heat for TWO DAYS to have her voice heard...

I hope those in lines are able to stay and make their voices heard!!! :patriot:
