I don't live in a swing area, so I don't know from watching my TV. All I see are these anti-Obama ads (which I assume are national buys).

2. Just heard one on MNF
Just heard an Obama ad on Monday Night Football that followed a Rev. Wright ad. It started out "John McCain wants to scare you..."

Perfect timing!

3. To Reply Would Be To Quantify The Ad
The smart thing to do is to ignore it.

7. I Think There Was Difference Though
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 11:24 PM by The Shadow
As someone already stated here, they tried this attack before and it didn't get any traction. Being so late in the campaign I think it best to simply ignore it. The difference with the swift boat attacks was that it did get traction right away and needed to be addressed right away. By the time Kerry decided to take any action the damage had been done. I think one of the biggest differences between Obama's and Kerry's campaigns is that Obama's people are very astute observers when it comes to attacks. Rather than jump on everything that makes the news cycle every day, they carefully weigh any potential repercussions from not only responding to an attack but also the decision not to. So far I think Obama's campaign people have been the key to his success.

4. He addressed that crap months ago..
Grandpa McLame and his idiotic campaign staff forgot that it didn't fly the first time around.

That's why they are toast.

10. Why shouldn't it backfire?
Everything else has. EVERYTHING.

Back during the primaries I thought he was doing a Kerry wuss-out too, but it didn't turn out that way.

Throughout the general election, Obama has turned McCain's nasty smears against them with minimal effort.

As a poster said in an earlier thread, if Reagan was the Teflon President, Obama will be the Rubber President. Not only do smears bounce off him without harming him, they recoil and harm the attacker. It's amazing to watch.

I have no doubt that, IF he thinks the Rev. Wright ad might harm him, he'll turn it back on McCain. But it's so late in the game, and the ad's so stale, he might just shrug it off.

11. Well, for one, the ACORN thing is gone with a video of McCain speaking at an ACORN rally
Besides... I liked Kerry, but frankly? I didn't see him fighting back ever whether with ads, or anything.

18. The McCain campaign thought it was going to backfire
That's why they never ran with it from the start.

8. They already said they won't run a counter ad
The reasons they gave from what I remember were

-The ad isn't airing in a whole lot of places, and isn't airing enough to make a difference in their opinion.

-Ads are much less effective when released in the last few days in a campaign, with little time for repetition (which is where this ad and a counter ad would fall under)

I think there was another reason to, but I forget what it was. They did say they had made a counter ad, but decided not to run it.

9. On MSNBC they had the Obama ad with I think it's Paul Simon
soundtrack. Just images of foreclosed homes, unemployment lines, healthcare, etc. No speaking. Very powerful.

14. No, and that will hurt him when he takes office
He was way too timid during the campaign about AIP, McCain's wacko preachers, McCain's dementia, all the things Olbermann mentioned in his rant last night, Palin's complete lack of qualifications for the job, the death threats, the violent language, and so on. I am afraid they will run over him once he's in office. Also, this race would not have been close is he'd fought back.
