Why is Nader Hurting Bush?
This would be the mother of all backfires if Nader ends up costing GEORGE the Whitehorse

Taken from www.talkingpointsmemo.com

New ICR poll, conducted September 1st-5th ...

With Nader, among 'likely voters': Bush:46, Kerry: 46, Nader: 4.

Without Nader, among 'likely voters': Bush 48, Kerry 47.

Without Nader, among 'registered voters': Bush 46, Kerry 47.

These aren't the first polls I've seen that do this. Without Nader is the race Kerry is behind, with Nader in, Bush is behind.

I hate Ralph, but if this is his effect, then I won't be such a vocal critique of his.

2. Nader is high profile, so angry Bush voters will feel their vote "counted"

if they go to Nader ... 3rd party candidates vote counts aren't reported (not too much is made of them I mean) and many voters feel they aren't noticed, but Nader's vote count will be discussed and that could be the reason why unhappy Chimpy voters are looking to Ralph as a viable protest vote because Nader will be noticed

3. I wouldn't have believed this a couple of days ago...
....but a conservative (he calls himself moderate, but I think he definitely leans conservative) in-law of mine was saying the other day that he doesn't like Bush* (even though he voted for him once), but he can't quite bring himself to vote for Kerry yet. He said he might vote for Nader so that he's at least voting against Bush*.

Everyone in the family is telling him that a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush* and he was getting confused. For som reason, he thought Nader was there to take votes from Bush*. My assumption is that he heard about all of the Republicans supporting Nader, and he thinks they're Republicans who are mad at Bush*.

4. Actually I misread the data
The one where it hurts Bush deals with registered voters, the other two deal with likely voters.

5. the only way this makes sense to me is if....
People who know they're going to vote republican say they would vote for Nadar just to inflate his numbers for the poll. Otherwise, this just doesn't make any sense.

6. he's garnering a lot of the stupid vote
people that are stupid enough to vote for Bush have a strong likelihood of throwing their vote away to that freak.

I want him in the debates just because it will make Kerry look even peppier.
