1. Husband and I voted last Saturday (a week and two days ago)
and it took about 15 minutes, but we got there at 6:50 am, ten minutes before the polls opened. We were about the 30th people in line.

18. 20 minutes. Chicago, IL
It was busy, packed, confusing. It still only took 20 minutes. I would guess there were 30-40 people there ahead of us, for 10 Sequoia touchscreen machines. By the time we left, there were probably 40-60 people in line.

Voted on 10/27 and there was NO line. Of course, this little burg is retiree heaven and they probably don't consider it a Democratic stronghold. It was my daughter's first time and the old ladies were so excited about it (she was mortified--I thought it was cute).

Besides the hour in traveling time, he stood in line for 6 hours
before casting his vote for President Obama.

had some great discussions with other people standing and waiting in line, as well.

33. There is a 3-minute maximum line at my municipality in southern Maine.
Most people have no waiting at all--the system is effective and we vote by coloring in bubbles; the only machinery involved is that that scans the bubbles (and leaves a paper trail!) The physical ballots are also kept and, in some instances, hand-counted to double-check.

I feel for the rest of the country.

37. I sat on the couch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, drinking a glass of wine
I love voting by mail! Anything else seems like the poll tax that Rachel was talking about last night.

Plus, with the voters' pamphlet, you can really take your time making decisions about the ballot initiatives.

40. 20 minutes from the time I left my cube to the return.
The county election office is 3 floors below me, plus I didn't need to stand and read the ballot.

There were 10 people in line, but everytime I looked, it was never the same 10. I'd call it smoothly runiing chaos.

I think it is because we have so many polling places. Years ago we didn't used to have as many polling places open and I remember voting for Kerry in 2004 and waiting for at least an hour.

And I didn't have to stand. In Northern VA, you can vote absentee by going to a specified location, filling out a form and the you get to sit a waiting room while they check your registration and then call you up by number to vote.

I got in and out pretty quickly, but I've heard that some people had to wait over an hour. Still much better than what I've read about in some places.

47. EIGHT (8) hours on Saturday but
the crowd was great ... shared food, water, stadium chairs, good humor, encouragement and great political talk!

Well worth every minute. Technically, here in SC, it was absentee voting for those whose work or other obligations would make voting on Tuesday difficult if not impossible (e.g. guy next to me was a long distance truck driver!). But it was tantamount to early voting.

I HAVE to work tomorrow but at 4:30 will do what I can to make sure others get to the polls (in line) by 7:00 to cast this historic, important point.

Guess what y'all? SC may just be in play! Can I get an AMEN, sister?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
