I HAVE AN IDEA for Barack appointment!
I am not sure if it would be seen for the strategic opportunism that would go along with such an offer.

I saw there are Republican senators in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Montana, Wyoming, and Kansas. Those states also have Democratic governors. There are more states like Colorado (but after election day there may be only Dem senators), Arizona (They'll get a Dem senator and why would Obama and McCain work together), Oklahoma (no way we want either of those hate mongers near an Obama presidency).

Let me know if there are any other states where this set of conditions (Dem Governor and Repub senators).

The idea is see if there is a fit for the senator in a cabinet (like Chuck Grassley in Iowa for Sec of Agriculture) and whether or not the conditions exist to have the Democratic governor replace the outgoing senator with a Democrat. In many states (like Wyoming recently, the GOP senator HAD to be replaced by a GOP member).

ANy ideas on this? I just started looking at this. I'm sure the Obama campaign has. Perhaps it's too much trouble to make a gesture of unity since the GOP will see it as a transparent way to get Democrats even more seats in the congress. However, if the DEMS pulled an upset and get to 60 in November, it is possible a Republican who doesn't want to work with no tools in their tool belt may join Obama.

1. Not every state allows for the Governor to appoint a temporary replacement Senator
Let alone one of a different party affiliation than the previous Senator.

For example, if McCain were to win, Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano could not appoint a Democratic Senator to fill the seat until the special election.

2. that's what I was saying. I'm trying to figure out which, if any, state
gives the governor enough control to appoint a Democratic senator.

6. you're probably right
I just think it would be TERRRIFIC if they could come up with some way to tease a 60 vote advantage there to remove all obstacles to an Obama agenda.

8. I had another thread about that.
saying I WANT a runoff in Georgia. The EYES of the nation and President-Elect Obama and much of Obama's left over cash will go to that race.

It will be a great thing to bankrupt GOP even further with a demoralizing loss by Saxby the traitor Chambliss.
