11. There are lots of Rescue Assoc's for pure-breds and mixed doggies, too.

Just google for the kind of doggie you want...and there is a Rescue Service for that dog! Most services also include dogs that are a mix of the pure-bred. One of the cutest ones I ever saw? Oscar ~~ half Scottie and half Poodle!

I used to work with Scottie Rescue. They are a wonderful group. Some of the Scotties I have had in the past were rescued from the pound, I took the wee lass or lassie home and later placed him/her with someone in my area and kept one or two of them myself.

BTW: Too funny when you went the city park in my area...you immediately noticed it looked different...and then realized it was cuz there were so many Scottish Terriers there!

really needs to adopt this dog. My personal testimony is that these are the loviest dogs in the world, loyal and cuddly. I have two mixed breed Pomeranians and they are both wonderful dogs. They can be taught easily not to bark excessively and they just want to be with you.

I do Pomeranian rescue in Kansas City and they're a wonderful breed, very loyal and sweet. Because of their size they aren't always good with small children unless they're prepared to handle the dog carefully and responsibly.

I have heard that poodles are not a good choice for children, sorry poodle people. I had one who was great with adults but not with small children. I now have a lab mix which I love but do not love the shedding hair everywhere.

But if you got a labradoodle you could get the best of both breeds. The temperament of the lab and the shedlessness of the poodle. And yes they are soooo cute.

Poodles have the least amount of this protein, and there are a few other breeds that are known to be ok most of the time... but if you have allergies your best bet is a poodle, and failing that you're best off going with a poodle mixed with another less-allergenic breed.

We have a yorkiepoo for that reason... but he's 75% poodle, 25% yorkie hehe.

I'll vouch for them! Ours is a female. She's practicably perfect in every way.

She's a rescue that we've had for three years. I have never had a more playful and protective dog in my life. Although she's never had any training in protecting us, there have been three times when she "alerted" on people. All three times her first instinct was to make sure where we were and then get between us and the perceived threat. She's never attacked anyone but she sure let them know they were not welcome anywhere near me and the people/other dogs I was with at the time.

The dog sat and watched the baby the whole time they were there and when it was time to go she wouldn't let mom or dad pick up the baby, she had bonded. I had to take her to my bedroom.

I've seen it over and over again. I come from a large, dog-loving family and the best dogs we've ever had were GSs. They really are natural watch dogs and protectors. And they love kids. Ours loves to watch tv. Whenever she hears a baby cry on TV, she runs up to screen and then looks at us as if to say, "do something!".

Our GS's favorite doll, the Barney doll in the photo, is one that my little sister got her. One day we had a friend bring over her baby daughter. She put the baby down on our bed for her nap and we all went into the next room to socialize. A while later we heard laughing over the baby monitor and went to check on her. We found the baby sitting up, slapping at Barney, laughing and having the time of her life. Whenever the baby knocked Barney out of the baby's reach the GS moved it back within her grasp. They were playing. The baby was giggling and the GS's tail was going a mile a minute. And the only way Barney could have gotten on the bed in the first place was if our GS had put it there. When it came time for our friend and her baby to leave, our GS followed them out to the car and kept jumping in it. She didn't want her little friend to leave.

of puppies. He said he had some beagle/Labrador crosses, so that's what I decided on, thinking I'd get a medium sized, laid back dog. When I got there, he did have a litter of Jack Russel terriers, but I restrained myself because I just knew that Jack Russels are very high energy dogs.

It turned out that Guinness is a beagle/German Shepherd cross, with the activity level and barking habits of a very energetic beagle and the deep chest (gives his barks real volume!) of a German Shepherd!

I had two purebreds previously, actually found the first one, Rosie, at the Humane Society. Hadn't heard of them before. She was the sickest dog there and more than repaid my love and care for her. The kill rate at the shelter where I volunteer is between 75 and 80 percent. Over 6,000 healthy dogs and puppies were euthanized over the last year because of human irresponsibility. The Obamas wouls be setting a wonderful example by supporting shelter animals.

Jewel is a 8-month-old Australian Shepherd/Retriever mix whose previous owner was having a baby and thought caring for her two dogs was too stressful. Jewel is a super sweet, affectionate pup who wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to you and be petted. She bonds quickly and loves people. She's still a young dog and can be a bit shy, so she will benefit from continued training and socialization in her new home. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a delightfully affectionate, playful, intelligent little dog that repays his owner’s care and attention with an endearing devotion.

Cavaliers are not kennel dogs. Because of four hundred years of close contact with their owners and their development as lap dogs, they make wonderful companions. They are happy, outgoing, loving little dogs who want to love you and be loved, to run and play in a safe place, and to sleep in a soft bed - preferably your bed, but they’re willing to negotiate on that point! Because young Cavalier puppies are so small, some breeders are reluctant to sell a puppy to a family with children under age five.
