13. That is almost as good as the Repub woman running for a local race
She claimed she was a 'survivor just like my namesake.' Her name was Virginia Dare. The original Virginia Dare was the first girl born in the colony of Roanoke that disappeared with no survivors ever found. :eyes:

14. Context:
" 11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance"

Note that the subject under discussion is the phrase "Under God", not the pledge as a whole.

So, there's *some* wiggle room, where she could argue that several of the founding fathers believed we should be a nation guided by spiritual beliefs, but that fails to note that several of our predecessors also actively argued against, and made sure, that our constitution had *no* reference to the Judeo-Christian specific "god" whatsoever.

Or, she could be complete moran, and actually thought that the pledge, with all of its edits, was written in the 1770's.

If she did actually know anything about the pledge, it would certainly be fun to ask her to say the original, and take photos of her showing how one was supposed to say it.

That would go down REALLY well in Florida, I'm sure.

18. Please, God, let her say that English was good enough for Jesus...
Sure, that line goes back to the 1880s, but it's no less funny and damning.

I wonder how she feels about 'In God We Trust' being on money because I think that idea came from Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams one night when they were all at a local church asking for guidance on whether or not a three and a half dollar bill would be a good idea.

"The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855-1931), a Baptist minister, a Christian Socialist, and the cousin of Socialist Utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850-1898)."
