Report from Augusta, GA
I spoke with a woman from Augusta, GA in the course of business last week. She and her husband were for Obama and had an Obama sign in their yard. I deduced from our conversation that she is fairly well off. She reported to me that she has had many people come up to her and whisper that they are for Obama too. She left me with the impression that there are quite a few closet Obama voters in Augusta. She voiced nothing but contempt for Saxby also.

Augusta is a bastion of Conservatism and it would be quite brave to stand up in support of the "opposition" but I wonder if there will be many "secret" votes for Obama. If that is the case and it is enough to augment the Atlanta votes and the large black turn-out we could be looking at a surprise in Georgia

1. My son lives in a small town outside of Augusta and I've been talking to him for over a year.
Last week's conversation was about voting for his own economic self-interest. I think I finally got thru.

2. I wish people would stop discounting Georgia...
It may not go for Obama, but I think it's closer than ever. And when people rule out GA, it seems to undermine the efforts of those who have been working so hard to educate people, register people to vote, calling people every night, plastering signs, wearing shirts...

It's got to start with something. We can't sit back and throw our hands up and say "Oh, well, they'll never vote for the Democrat."

My sister waited in line in rural nowhere. It IS different this time.

3. The Atlanta area is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.
I believe the Old South is becoming a thing of the past politically in the metro area. Augusta is still very conservative and I was glad to see this crack in that surface also.

The internet is partially responsible for this change. Many rural areas were only exposed to the local media and by tradition that favored a conservative point of view. The more sources the more open the mind in my opinion. We are going to see significant changes throughout the U.S. because of this.
