MSNBC: Rahm Emanuel...Obama's White House Chief of Staff?
Mika Mouse just said, it's out there, and the RNC saying Emauel is extremely liberal.

I believe it would be a great choice.

3. Let's say this is fact. Repubs are the shadiest people on Earth.
Or at least the US. When they want someone out they'll bash the people to oblivion, yet when they wantt to survive the same people they would kiss the ass of in order to stay alive. This is not in regards to Emanuel but in regards to a lot of members of the Repub party. Like Obama supporters for a Repub...set up by a Repub candidate.

But this guy who considers himself a Repub and supports the ideology is thrown under the bus by his own failing party. The utter nerve. I don't know much about him, but I plan on reading up on him and getting a feel.

What's Mika Mouse talking about Obama's Chief of Staff? Has Morning Joe started calling Obama President O, or something? We still have several days to go and I'm not about to take that for granted.

6. Rep. Rahm Emanuel
has been the democrat elected in 2002 to represent Illinois' 5th congressional district. He was the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in '06, and is a member of a group called "the New Democratic Coalition."

He had supported Senator Clinton in the primaries. In late May, he was tasked with telling her that she could not win the nomination, and needed to step aside. He has supported Obama since then.

7. Oooh...thanks. That's Vaberella completely with no lack of sleep H2O Man.
I thought he was a Repub. I think I said RNC and assumed he was a "soft Repub". My bad and I apologize. Thanks so much for the clarification H20 Man. Much appreciated.

8. He is rather conservative
on many issues. Too many. But he might work out well, if selected for that position.

"uncommitted" until June 4. But he had been working closely with Senator Clinton.

11. He's not liberal by a long stretch, but Obama could do much worse.
It's a sound choice because this guy can talk with the GOP without blowing chunks.

18. you are destined to start bleating that Obama is a traitor and
a closet neocon no later than November 10th. Obama is going to reach out to moderate repubs and DLCers. That's just reality and it's the only way he has a whisp of a chance of passing legislation he wants enacted.

15. I am not sure he would take it. He has long been rumored to covet Pelosi's job
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 06:00 AM by Perky
In a couple of years.

He would have to resign from Congress to be cied of staff,,, Then run for speaker when she is ready to relinquish the role. He would be a fine Chied I suppose but the flip side is that he is not considered a old dem warrior with the stature to deal with Department heads and graying senators. Though they do weem yo be fewer and fewer of them,

16. Two Rahm points
Point one, a wee smidge on the conservative side. Which I could live with, if ...Point Two, he takes some TV talking tips from Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Rahm is very hit or miss in his TV shots, and misses too many openings. Ms. Wasserman Schultz does not miss a thing in that mode. Rahm would do well to take a few notes if he's going to be a public face of the adiministration or if he wants to be Speaker for that matter.

19. Rham was in Bill Clinton's administration. Then worked for a global bank then a congressman
He did not endorse in the primaries because he was in the Clinton administration and he is from IL and knows Obama well:

Rahm Emanuel, 48, is a leader in Congress committed to addressing the challenges facing families across the nation. Since taking the oath of office in 2003, he has been a strong, effective voice for Chicago in Congress.

At the beginning of his second term, Emanuel received an assignment to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees taxes, trade, Social Security, and Medicare issues. Additionally, Emanuel was appointed by then House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to serve as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Under his leadership, the DCCC expanded the Democratic Party’s reach in every region of the country. Democrats gained 30 seats in the House and ushered in a new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives.

In January of 2007, the new majority elected Emanuel to serve as Democratic Caucus Chair, the 4th highest ranking Member of the House Democratic Leadership.

As Chair, Emanuel led the Democratic Caucus in fulfilling its campaign promise to pass legislation reflecting the values and priorities of the American people. In the first 100 legislative hours, Democrats passed sweeping ethics reform, strengthened our national security, increased minimum wage, expanded stem cell research, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, cut interest rates on student loans, and ended the subsidies for the oil industry.

Emanuel began his career with the consumer rights organization Illinois Public Action. He worked on Paul Simon’s 1984 election to the U.S. Senate and in 1989 served as a senior advisor and chief fundraiser for Richard M. Daley. Emanuel served as a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. After leaving the White House, Emanuel returned to Chicago to serve as a managing director at a leading global investment bank.

We'll have a lot to do in the first two years and he will be good in that role. We'll need a no BS scene...
