Sometimes the historic nature of this election hits
In the 1700s, some of my ancestors had to create their own community, Gouldtown, NJ, to live in peace and avoid racism and hate because they were of mixed marriages of negroes, indians, whites, and "mulattos."

Fast forward 200+ years and unfortunately there is still racism and hate, but we have progressed enough as a country that we not only have a viable "colored" person as a candidate, but the also are very close to becoming the first black President of the United States.

I'm not old enough to remember some truly historic events but certain ones stand out because I was able to witness them happening: the resignation of a sitting president, the collapse of the Berlin wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany.

I would have to say that this election, and next Tuesday in particular, will probably stand out as the most historic event of my life and one of the most historic events in our nations history.

Man I love being part of it.

1. This day has been a long time coming
I'm voting for Obama for many reasons and none of them have to do with his race. That said, however, I feel more emotional about his likely victory *because* of his race, than for any other reason.

This day has been a long time coming, and it's about damn time. And although I personally have mixed beliefs about an afterlife, if there is an existance beyond this one, I can't help feeling that all those who paved the way for Obama with their work and suffering - sometimes with their very lives - *all* of them will be with us on November 4th.
