1. If I recall
SMU is a very conservative campus. Glad to see they saw the light. :)

6. Yep...it's the campus where chimpass help his pre-election day 2004 midnight "rally"

I think the TX universe has officially turned upside now. SMU and UT Austin newspapers have endorsed the same candidate.

Guess that explains why the last time I drove thru the neighborhood next to SMU the Obama/Biden signs outnumbered the Mclame signs 5 to 2.

17. I wouldn't believe that unless I saw it with my own eyes -- and if I saw it with my own ideas
I'd think I was having acid flashbacks

16. Which neighborhood? I can't believe Obama would predominate across Hillcrest
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 10:00 PM by struggle4progress
or across Mockingbird from SMU. Maybe in the modest neighborhood near the Plaza. More likely across Central from SMU

18. I was on my way to a work related conference and went the Tollway
to Mockingbird...headed west on Mockingbird after I got off the Tollway. That's where the Obama/Biden signs outnumbered the Mclame signs. I remembered that I had driven down that way for some other reason back in 2004 and it was all Bush/Cheney signs at the time.

19. SMU is bounded by Mockingbird but rather east of there. West of the tollway
on Mockingbird isn't in the Park Cities, though you wouldn't know it from the houses -- and I would have guessed that was a reliably conservative park of Dallas, so you are cheering my heart

8. The students are super-conservative
The (non-business) faculty is a normal faculty, and the students in arts & communication - including the newspaper staff - tend to be fairly liberal. At least that's how it was when I went there during Gulf War I and for the Bush vs. Clinton election.

4. Et tu, SMU?

Future home of the George W. Bush Presidential Library?

"With the United States in complete disarray, we need a leader who can carry this country out of debt, bring our troops back home safely and install change and hope throughout our nation. After tolerating Bush in office for eight years, it is time for a change in our great nation, and we believe there is no one better qualified for the job than Sen. Barack Obama."

It doesn't look as if they need to set aside land for a neighboring Sarah Palin Hockey Mom library though. By the time these students sit on an alumni board, it's doubtful their views will have mellowed:

"Let's get to the Sarah Palin aspect. If McCain were to, God forbid, die while in office, Sarah Palin would be handed the reigns. We find this downright frightening. She simply does not have the experience to lead the United States of America, and many fear her lack of knowledge regarding foreign affairs and distorted views about foreign policy would spell disaster for the U.S. At least Biden would know where to begin in case of an emergency.

And just to touch on the embarrassment Bush caused with his shaky hold on the English language, imagine the howls of laughter emanating from the across the globe when they hear Palin's accent."

12. It must be difficult for academics to put up with.
I heard several interviews with them and remember thinking how difficult and how insulting it would be to have the library located there given its restricted use and limited holdings.

Other locations would have been better; Either Yucca Mountain which offers better preservation or Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island which has open areas of great symbolic importance.

14. Accent can be what it is.
How about the fact most foreigners would speak a more correct english?

English is not my main language - but it does not exactly take an english professor to acknowledge that her spoken english is horrible in terms of sentence construction - or the lack of same.
Might take one to understand it though.
