On Keith's commentary tonite, he. proves Palin a fraud. Read this:
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 11:52 PM by BigBearJohn
He quotes Palin:

"And Alaska -- we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."

"Alaska is sometimes described as America's socialist state because of its collective ownership of resources."

Hmmmm.. delicious.

BIDEN NEEDS TO USE THIS AGAINST MCCAIN RIGHT AWAY!!!

1. Alaska has a great idea even if some describe it as socialist...
Maybe the other states should adopt it. Boy, would that piss the big corporations off.

4. It IS a great idea.
Jay Hammond and his buddies back there in the late '70s and early '80s, when the oil first started flowing, were geniuses. And going back even further, the people who put together Alaska's Constitution, which declares that the PEOPLE collectively own the minerals rights -- that was brilliant.

I think Sarah Palin realizes that it's a good idea, too, but the ideology of her party won't allow her to embrace it out there in the national spotlight.

She was so stupid to accept this offer, and John McCain is an idiot.

5. McCain's no idiot
McCain's not an idiot, but he doesn't look as far ahead as Obama. McCain picked a running mate; Obama picked a vice president.

3. AIP luvin Palin
lies so much, she's having a hard time keeping them separate.

Speaking of separate, do you suppose any of her supporters are smart enough to realize what the AIP is all about? Or that she has allied herself with an extreme group whose leader has stated that he hated the USA? I don't think Palin is a socialist, nor a capitalist, I think she is bold-face liar who will tell you whatever she wants. And what she wants is power and to help Alaska succeed from the USA. I also don't think Palin has any intention of collectively sharing any power or wealth unless it involves kickbacks to her own goals.

In short, Palin is out for Palin and her mentor hubby's personal, political agenda.

Keith and Rachel are awesome!!!

“Alaska is sometimes described as America's socialist state, because of its collective ownership of resources—an arrangement that allows permanant residents to collect a dividend on the state's oil revenues.” —Philip Gourevitch, writing in the New Yorker

13. I advise a bit of caution here...

I read the linked New Yorker interview ... the quotes are from the author's editorial, I don't think they are Palin's quotes, and the OP is misleading to say "he quotes Palin". Biden would not be wise to present an argument that is based on fact yet could backfire if he attributes the quote to Palin. I'm not sure if Keith had it right, I'll need to watch it again.

14. Not only that
You can hardly blame Alaska's constitution on Palin.

Or blame her for confiscating the oil companies unprecedented profits when oil prices spike.

A lot of Americans wish Washington would have taxed them more this year.

There are much better ways to confront the "spread the wealth" rhetoric of McCain.

15. Couldn't Biden say something like:
Palin's own State of Alaska advocates "spreading the wealth" -
if this is good enough for Alaska, why not for America? I wonder
how Sarah felt when she was spreading the wealth by sending $1200
to every Alaskan citizen. One can't help but wonder if anyone
accused HER of being a socialist. I doubt it."

No quotes need be attributed to anyone.

to everyone in Alaska and she spread it before the elections. Her manipulative mind never ceases except when answering questions honestly.

16. she's a hypocrite
and as Gov of the state that certainly "redistributes wealth" unlike any other she should be righteously nailed for it if she's going to attack Obama. My point was only to keep the argument against her honest, otherwise there's blowback for misleading statements.

21. Palin IS responsible for ACES, a windfall profit tax
So here's an interesting thing about Alaska governor Sarah Palin: she's a tax raiser. Last September she proposed a new state tax plan called ACES, and by November she had successfully pushed it through the Alaska legislature in a special session. ACES had two goals. First, it replaced a year-old plan called PPT that was mired in corruption and was widely distrusted. No problem there. Second, it was designed to increase revenue. PPT had raised revenues by $1 billion, but that was still less than everyone expected. So Palin's plan increased that by another $700 million.

But it gets even more interesting. ACES, of course, is a tax on the oil industry, since that's how the rugged individualists up north fund themselves. (In addition to massive infusions of federal cash, that is.) And it had three basic provisions:

An increase in the basic tax rate on oil company profits from 22.5% to 25%.

A windfall profits provision. When oil prices went over $50/barrel or so, the tax rate would rise 0.2% for each dollar.

A tax floor. If oil prices fell below about $40/barrel, oil companies would still have to pay 10% of the gross price of the crude they produce.
