Just got back from Democratic HQ in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
I went by to get a yard sign. They were out of them. I'm okay with that, it just shows they are in demand.

The HQ is located in an otherwise unoccupied house, just off the busiest street in town. And the place was absolutely packed. I asked what was going on. I was told that they were training poll watchers. I recognized a few of the people there, though I couldn't put names to the faces. They were lawyers that I've seen at the courthouse.

I never saw anything remotely like this in 2004 or 2000. It made me really excited to see so much activity there. The Obama campaign is dead serious about protecting the integrity of the election, and that makes me really proud and happy!

9. Yeah, Ala-frickin-Bama!
I don't think we are going to carry the state... but I think it's going to be closer here than in a very long time!

3. I was a poll observer in 2004 and 2006 here in NC -
training was done by a team of lawyers for the county Dem party. I truly enjoyed it.

I moved to a different county - that does not do poll observation - and apparently you have to be registered in the county where you observe. I took the 4th off anyway and will do something else like drive people to polls or pass out literature.

4. That's great news!
My husband volunteered to be a poll watcher, but the campaign never called him back. :(

I'm sure that we'll find something else to do for the campaign. He already took the day off to work for Obama, and that's what we're going to do!

5. In Phoenix HQ - it was full of people
calling saying you have to mail in your ballot today to get it counted before the 4th.
Big turnout there as well.

Sounds great. Tuscaloosa needs to roll out heavy for Obama. Roll Tide.

I think Obama could carry Tuscaloosa... and if he does, Bill Maher will get an email from me. :)

13. NC State. We are in a rebuild unfortunately.
We are an NC State family (I have a son currently there). However, I have some friends that are Alabama alums and I've been down for the Iron Bowl twice and other games as well. My uncle (now deceased) was an Auburn alum though. Our family is big into hockey. We're Hurricanes season ticket holders and my nephew is a rising star in that sport (locally called by the Hurricanes junior hockey coaches as the "prodigy").

14. good luck to your nephew!
I've never been real big into hockey for pretty obvious reasons. Though it is kind of cold at this moment. :)

Speaking of hockey, Goldie Hawn's son was, at least recently, a scholarship hockey player at North Alabama, in Huntsville. I hear her and Kurt Russell came down quite often for games. I think they are quite liberal, but I don't think they ever registered on the local political radar. :)

I wish your nephew luck, unless he competes against people from my state that I never heard of.

:D

15. Thanks.
I remember when desk top computers were first getting popular and one of the first people I chatted with online was Goldie. They have a condo in Vancouver as well as in the US of course. I'm glad her son found a home there in Tuscaloosa. Hopefully, my nephew will get enough eyes on him to play junior hockey in Canada. Otherwise, he will probably end up playing for a college in New England. Good luck to Bama the rest of the way. :hi:
