Excuse me, but how in THE hell can a Dem still be "undecided"?
MSNBC just spoke to a small business owner who runs a cafe in Pennsylvania. She says she's a registered Democrat, but is, essentially still not sure which candidate's plan would best help her business. (?)

16. Sadly, I must agree...
...My wife and I discussed this last night. "Undecided" Democrats? Undecided about WHAT? My God, it's sickening. But I'm not surprised. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, and there are many people there, from the lower, middle and upper classes, who may be nominally Dems but will find it hard if not impossible to vote for a black man. They will vote against their own interests, and the interests of the country, because, basically, they are racist. It's as simple as that.

40. My daughter is a social worker
She observed that there are probably a lot of conflicted white people that want Obama but when they get in the booth they will not be able to vote for a black man.

I can not believe that in this day of age that is still the case but we will find out election day

A friend of mine is a registered democrat and was huge Hillary supporter during the primaries. I also was for Hillary at first, but I always said I would vote for Obama if he won too. I hadn't spoken to her in a while until she accidentally send me an anti-Obama e-mail last week. I was surprised to see that she send it to her family because I assumed she would be voting for Obama. She was duped by Bush and has been so angry with all that he has done. I was proud that she was going to be voting democrat this time after listening to her husband's garbage over the years. I talked to her about it and she told me she wasn't sure who she was voting for, but she thinks she will vote for McCain. She said she thought he was an honorable man and she liked his experience. Then she claimed that Obama wasn't ready to be President. So then I brought up Palin, his lying dishonorable campaign and his McBush qualities. However, it didn't seem to work. Instead she beat around the bush and tried to change the subject. I knew at that point the real reasons why she wasn't voting for Obama. My friend grew up in the racist south of the 50's and 60's. I thought some of her prejudices she developed during that time were changing because she was trying to be more tolerant. Well at least I thought that was the case. Another friend of ours kinda confirmed it all for me as well. I realize that she still has a long way to go and I'm not sure that is someone I want to call a friend at this time.

4. Racism
I'm sorry, but that is the only thing holding people back.

They are either openly or subconciously racist and worry about his skin color more than his plans and qualifications.

If she was, she'd be on board with Obama. I would be extremely surprised to learn her diner nets her $250,000 a year.

25. And even if the diner did show profits of over $250,000
For every $1,000 in net profit over $250,000 she has to chalk up a big extra $30!! Not to mention that with Obama's plan, the end result is that the economy improves, she gets more customers, and ends up making substantially more.

12. I can just think of two reasons to be undecided.
1. They are stupid/did not listen to any candidate this year.
2. They are racists and can't decide what's more important. Staying racist or voting for a better future for themselves.

The difference between both candidates (and their VPs) is so stark, there can't be another reason.

14. Honestly it usually is about
the same. You can pick the dupublicans or the repulicrats. This year, it is as clear as it has ever been. And that old RW Ronnie asks, "Are you better off now than you were 8 years ago" It is as simple as that. You have to be brain dead at this point to be undecided.

If you like the expansion of the military-industrial war machine and the corruption, like Stevens, then McOldtster is your guy.

On the other hand, if you want to restore a glimmer of hope, Believe in BO and hope he can control the useless democratic leadership, and act before the tyranny of the status quo sets in, then your choice is obvious.

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 11:00 AM by saracat
That is why I am still walking. We speak to ALL voters and many are just making up their minds. Many folks don't make politics a priority and many folks just aren't that partisan( In any party) We want those votes. And there are many reasons they give for their indecision and they are reasonable but a partisan would have trouble relating. But their opinions are just as valid as our own.

29. Some people are still buying the anti-Obama crap
I've run into a number of undecided people while calling here. Some of them are racists, no doubt. But some are also still of the belief that Obama is a Muslim, his wife hates America, etc. It makes my head hurt just talking to some of them.

Good news, though: the ones who aren't racist can sometimes be turned around by a confident voice speaking the truth to them. One lady I spoke to on Saturday actually sounded relieved when I told her that Obama was not Muslim. By the end of the call, she said she was leaning Obama. She might have been lying to me, but she sounded sincere.

OTOH, I also talked with a woman who swore that she has been paying attention to the news about both campaigns, watched the debates, etc. She said she was undecided, but that she was worried about McCain's age. I said, "Yes, and there are concerns about his running mate, too." Her reply was, "What's wrong with his running mate?" !!! Yeah, she's paying attention. Sure she is.:eyes:

So I'd say some undecided Dems are really still undecided, because they have absorbed bad information, and some are racist.

And some are just stupid, unfortunately.

Those people are afraid of an African-American!

You could tell. The woman said she "agrees with a lot of what McCain says" well, that's the clincher for me.... McCain talks out of both sides of his mouth and contradicts himself from one week to the next.... so what does she agree with?

Those people at that Diner need to drink something other than kool-aid.

34. Thanks to everyone for your comments.
Unfortunately, I believe racism is still at the heart of a lot of so-called indecision, too. I also think that because I'm such a political animal and therefore tunnel-visioned, I forget that many people just don't pay a whole lot of attention to politics. Doesn't make them bad people, just says we have different priorities.

:hi:

After 18 months of coverage, what the hell else is there to know? Are the two candidates so close in ideas, policies, plans, etc. that one simply cannot make up one's mind? What is there to be undecided about?

Hmmm - maybe I'll vote for the liberal guy. But I don't know -- maybe I'll vote for the conservative guy. Such a tough choice.

39. Great sarcasm! Yeah!
People that can't make up their minds must be very self-centered people. I bet half of them aren't even registered to vote!

I know a couple people like that. They just don't vote, but if you ask them who they are voting for, they say they haven't made up their minds.

There ARE MILLIONS of Americans, EVEN NOW, who are not even registered to vote. Some of them are on the lamb from a child support order. Some of them skipped out on a speeding ticket fifteen years ago. There's probably some that fear having to serve on a jury.

They are out there! Just like Joe the NOT plumber was one of them until last spring.
