Rachel Meddow: Early voting is light WHAT!!!!!!!!!
I love her but I don't know where she's getting her info from. She said this tonight on her show talking about the numbers are no different than 2004. There have been stories everyday on record voter turn out in several states so I'm baffled on her comments.

1. Did she give context?
In NC, early voting is WAY above 2004 levels.

10. She only cherry-picked certain states
Mainly focused on Colorado, since there is light early voting there despite the 100,000 person rally for Obama.

13. Right, she talked about voting booths set up near the event at the capitol
But many of us in Colorado vote by mail. I dropped off our ballots at a convenient polling place today. No real need to go to the voting booth when you can drop off or mail a ballot.

So I also think CO isn't the best example.

2. Compared to the entirety of 2004, she is right, but by this point she is dead wrong.
Not even close to being right actually.

5. I don't quite understand what you are saying.
"Compared to the entirety of 2004"...do you mean, compared to the total number of all the early votes in 2004, the numbers cast so far in 2008 are far less?

I don't mean to be dense.

23. Yeah, compared to all of 2004, we are behind that total right now.
However, not by much.

3. My aunt called me after watching that segment freaking out!
She's all depressed and worried about early voting now. I told her to ignore the "talk me down" segment on Rachel's show.

9. She said that high numbers attended the rallies but
they didn't turn around and go to the polls.

That in and of itself doesn't bother me because attending an Obama rally seems to be an all day affair and would easily wear a person out.

However, I do wonder that people are chosing not to vote early while is Obama encouraging otherwise. I wonder if he needs to state why early voting is important, if indeed that is the case.

12. Stopped Watching Rachel - too Many Right Wing Wackos and She's A Downer
I could understand if she had some moderates, but she just kind of lets them spout their talking points. Also, I am starting to realize that her take on things is either sarcastic when discussing the Republicans or just depressng and paranoid when talking about the Democrats. While pointing out the hypocrisy of Republicans is funny, it is actually depressing hearing her discuss Democrats, because she never really says or emphasizes anything positive.

18. She's smart and doesn't rant and rave. I like that.
She is kicking ass in her time slot, now beating Larry King at CNN.

19. But After Watching Numerous Shows, She Is Not Real Positive...
Name something that she is upbeat or positive about. It starts to get depressing. Heck, do a story about the unprecedented number of folks getting mobilized to volunteer or vote. Yes, she can piss on it later by discussing voter suppression, but at least talk about something upbeat once in a while. If I want to feel depressed about Democrats, I can always watch Fox.

I do appreciate her intelligent, non-bombasitic, discussion of issues, but throw in some positive energy so folks don't just feel snarky about Republicans. I would like to feel happy about being a Democrat, and supporting Obama.

25. Trying 2 b the UN-Olberman democrat
on MSNBC so that ring nuts won't be scared to go on her show? I admire her intellect and we can all need constructive criticism now and then, but she is a little too wishy, washy for me. Any time a democrat affectionately calls pat buchanan "uncle" I have a problem.

I wish Randi Rhodes will get her on show, but I guess msm tv isn't ready for her.

20. Her show is basically 1 hr of nonstop sarcasm
I agree; I'd like to see her start talking about positive qualities of the Democrats' and their message. 99% of the time she's just mocking Republicans, and half the time it's about superficial things.

15. I had to laugh at that when I heard it....
I think she knows there has been a good turn out for early voting. I think she is just trying to down play it a little, possibly to help make sure that everyone does go out and vote.

If she were to report record numbers of early voting, and that Obama will win in a land slide, then perhaps no one else will vote.

Possible?
