Any particular reason Hillary Clinton is campaigning in Omaha, NE Wed???
Nebraska, along with Maine are the 2 states that split their electoral vote by districts (remember last year, Republican hacks tried to get an initiative on the ballot to try to do that to Democratic stronghold of California, but the measure failed miserably)....Basically, we'd be going after ONE of Nebraska's elctoral votes in a maroon state...Wouldn't it be better to have her campaign in Ohio, or Virginia?

2. It's between IA and CO. They must get some ads bleeding into the state
from those 2 states.

Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 09:53 PM by Hawaii Hiker
I'm just saying lets hit the traditional battlegrounds hard and the red states that we have a great chance of winning ie: Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia...That's all..

Whoops, my reply was for #5 Jake..Sorry

22. I was born in Omaha
Actually Council Bluffs. Omaha news coverage and ads bleed into Western Iowa about a quarter of the way across the state.

Omaha could be an important foothold . . . and it is very likely to go Obama, in my mind (along with Montana, Georgia, and North Dakota).

29. Maybe as a homage to Warren B.?
But hey if you are playing in Red States why not go to one where you can pick off at least 1 EV. Gives them a bit more political capital to spend especially if they pick off North Dakota and/or Montana.

This is how he wins. Go after every delegate, every vote.

12. There are several scenarios that result in 269-269 tie. NE2 would break it, and a visit that is
rare can have a larger impact than a visit to an area that has had lots of visits.

Most likely scenario that would end in a tie is Obama wins Kerry states plus the additional Gore states (NM and Iowa) plus Colorado. A 269-269 tie would not be a slam dunk in the House...red-state dems would be under tremendous pressure if their state heavily went for McCain. Pressure on them would be even greater if McCain wins the national popular vote (although that's unlikely).

14. The congressional candidate Jim Esch also has a chance of winning there too.
He surprisingly won 45% of the vote when he ran in 2006.

20. Hillary is on the downticket mission
Her role is to pump up enthusiasm in a contested area whil also supporting downticket Democrats. That's why her talk today was all Democrats this and Democrats that. She's working the downticket races. That's also why she, Biden, and Bill were in Scranton last weekend, pumping up the struggling campaign of Paul Kanjorski. This has much more to do with the downticket races than it does with the one electoral vote, though that would be a plus, for sure.

31. Makes sense to visit Omaha so quickly after Powell's endorsement of Obama.
Nearby Offutt Air Force Base has 2,304 households on base, and Nebraska has had 27,000 new Democrats register to vote since Jan. 15, while the number of registered Republicans has fallen by 900. There are swing voters in Omaha and the surrounding area.
