I'm serious about this. I know it's not over, but when it is: I'd like to flood these three right-wing hate mongers with thank you cards, emails, and notes (from Democrats) for their help in electing Barack Obama.
To Hannity:
--
For bringing up the Jeremiah Wright thing back in March of 2008, which gave Obama plenty of time to repair the political damage. It would have been fatal to the Obama campaign had the tapes surfaced in October. But you didn't let that happen. You harped on it constantly until the issue broke all over the place in the middle of the primary. You gave him a chance for a transcendent moment in his speech on race in Philadelphia, focused the eyes of the country on him, and he took that opportunity and ran with it.
--
For playing the Wright tapes over and over again, to the point where most have become desensitized to it. Somehow, it doesn't seem as harsh as it did when we first saw it. It's old news and late night comedians can now harmlessly joke about Obama's crazy former pastor.

For focusing on things like ACORN, and Bill Ayers and the Manchurian candidate meme. And more importantly: for getting the McCain campaign to take the bait on these issues and start talking about them instead of the economy, jobs, and healthcare, b/c you convinced them that that's what voters care about. You helped make the McCain campaign seem small and petty and out of touch for talking about these issues in the middle of the greatest economic meltdown of our lifetime.
To Rush Limbaugh:
--
For your brutal criticism of McCain during the primary. For stirring up the conservative base against him so that, even after being nominated, McCain had to still work to secure his right flank and "play to the base". He should have been busy appealing to the center. If he had picked Ridge or Lieberman, he would've been formidable. But thankfully, you didn't let that happen. You forced him to play to your ego; you forced him to secure the right wing of the party. So he picked Palin, focused on Ayers and raised hints of Obama not being American enough and it's turned off voters in the middle. Thank you.
--
For drilling into people's heads that Obama was an empty suit who was lost without a teleprompter. Of course, anyone who had been following his campaign knew that wasn't true. But you lowered expectations for him in the debates brilliantly. I can't tell you how many RWers told me that Obama was going to flub and look lost in the debate without a teleprompter and how McCain would clobber him in the debates because of that. He didn't. Obama looked smart, well versed on the issues. And you gave him a boost when people realized the RW was full of it on that point.
--
For exposing the Republican party for what it is: petty, mean, racist, xenophobic and filled with religious bigotry and ignorance. The focus on Obama's middle name, your incessantly racist commentary, stoking the idea that Obama is some kind of radical muslim--and the nasty lynchmob-like crowds that resulted from your ugly propoganda campaign--helped drive thinking moderates away from the Republican party and turned off independents b/c they don't want to be associated with that.
To Bill Kristol:
--
For convincing McCain to pick Sarah Palin and undermining his best argument against Barack Obama: experience. In an instant, with that pick, you helped transform McCain into the riskier candidate. The pick raised questions about his judgment (he didn't vet her! he met her once before picking her!) and his age (what if he dies while in office!) all at the same time. It's hard to imagine a more damaging strategic piece of advice you could have given him.
I'm sure you guys can come up with more! Let's flood them with thank you letters after the election. Without their help Obama winning would have been a little bit harder!
