How many news cycles has Powell stolen from McCain this coming week?
With Chris Matthews jumping to have a special Hardball today, I imagine Powell is being approached for interviews this coming week. Doesn't mean he'll accept any invitations. But the media has a lot to parse from his thoughts expressed in his endorsement.

And then they'll start wondering - Will Powell campaign for Obama? Who does his wife endorse? What is his son saying? How many other Republicans feel like Powell? How many Republicans feel like Buchanan about all this?

I hope he absorbs the whole week but it makes me wonder how McCain might try to steal back this very precious week.

3. Outside of political junkies 99% of endorsements barely register anyways.
I give it a few mentions on Monday, and then pretty much nothing, except from the aforementioned political junkies like us. :)

It'll be hard at this point, this close to the election, for any story to top the news for long. Every day there's some new (or imagined) story they can run with, and you can rest assured that's exactly what the media will do. The only time they like to linger on a story is when it's about the media themselves. They love talking about themselves most of all.

But I think this endorsement will show up in the tracking polls as a 1-2 point Obama bump in a few days when it settles in. This endorsement is laser aimed at the people we need to swing our way in two weeks.

It also serves to take remaining wind out of McCain (and supporters) sails.

This was a very good day..and Gallup/Rasmussen were up from yesterday before it started.
