McCain's surrogates' response to Powell endorsement: "He's not out campaigning for him...

so it doesn't mean much. It's a 1-day story. If Powell was going to help Obama, he'd be out there WITH him but he's not. No big deal." (paraphrased, but close) They WISH it won't help him. You can bet Obama will turn his endorsement into ads in all battleground states. This IS a big deal.

2. My read: Powell didn't say he would not campaign for Obama, he
was leaving it up to Obama to decide (over these last days) whether Obama wanted him to.

I didn't hear Powell to say he would not campaign for him.

4. I didn't hear that, either. Maybe he WILL. But even if he doesn't, it's a big deal. n/t

10. Time to edit has passed, but: He was asked if he'd go out and campaign for him and he said no-

that there are just a couple weeks left to let the two candidates will "go at it." His endorsement is enough.

3. Well, that's what you say when you get your ass handed to you so royally!
How utterly lame in the face of Powell's well thought out, well delivered message.

5. Exactly. And it was MORE than an endorsement fo Obama. It was a condemnation of
McCain.

6. If Powell had endorsed McCain, you can bet they'd be trumpeting it
to the stars.

7. Now comes the domino effect.
The more and more people will be jumping on the Obama wagon since it looks like he's going to be the winner.

They're all going to throw McCain under the bus in order to position themselves for the next administration.

9. Too bad Schmoe didn't listen to what Powell said
My interpretation: If McCain had conducted his campaign as McCain, circa 2000, might have conducted a campaign, Powell might be inclined to support him. But when McCain took his sharp right turn during the primaries and barely made an effort to turn back to the center, that soured folks like Powell. Add to that the despicable, divisive campaign that has infected the Republican party nationally, and Powell has no use for them.
McCain had to go hard right to win the nomination; his fatal mistake is forgetting that the reason people thought of him as a maverick was that they perceived him to be a pure centrist. He may be, but you'd never know it from anything he has done this year.

11. McLiar would be rejoicing if Powell endorsed him
Anything he says about the endorsement for Obama is just sour grapes. Poor dumb John McLiar.

13. Its not only the vote - its his reason for voting for Obama...
Citing both the nasty turn McCain's campaign has taken along with his choice of Palin for VP - Colin Powell crystallized the argument against McCain. John McCain's erratic, angry, and shortsighted temperament make him a poor choice for POTUS.
