Josh Marshall helps Republicans by starting myth that Democrats are slacking off.

"And many Obama supporters, sure the election is basically wrapped up, appear ready to slack in the stretch and let McCain smear and cheat his way into office."

I haven't seen ANY evidence of this and Josh Marshall has provided none either.

But he uses his front page to start that crap.

Sorry, but unless he has actual hard proof, all he's doing is giving McCain and the Repubs a helping hand towards stealing the election.

If you agree, please consider shooting a quick email to Josh at talkingpointsmemo.com and asking him to either issue a correction, apologize or provide some evidence to back up his claim.

IMO, this is important. Quashing any chances the Repubs have to cover up attempts at Election theft.

BTW, there was the bogus notion that Democrats would have eased off on donating funds. The numbers out today $150 million contradict that.

1. I wonder where he is getting this from.
Obama supporters can not wait to vote for Barack Obama for President of the United States of America. The campaign is being run as if it is two points behind. No slacking off.

2. Reverse psychology at work.
Obama's own advisers were doing conference calls the other day, fretting about donations - knowing full well that they'd just crushed their own record for campaign contributions in September.

So by your standard, are David Plouffe and David Axelrod 'giving Republicans a helping hand?'

Josh, in his own way, is guarding against complacency. Not a bad position to take if you ask me.

3. Josh can sometimes come off as if he's from the Rachel Maddow school of negativity.
maybe it's from reader comments or something? Either way, I'm sick of the "we must not be complacent" lectures.

4. I get sick of them, too.
But they're a necessary counterweight to the 'OMGZ, they're going to steal it again!!!1!' posts.

Obama himself cautioned Democrats not to slack off the other day, didn't he?

6. yes,
I guess my point is is that Obama cautioning against it should be enough without the lectures from random people...anyone who thinks we can be complacent is an idiot.

8. Josh is an odd sort.
I remember seeing him on CNN years ago, when TPM was just another small blog like the rest of us. He said something that sounded like a defense of Bush (I believe it was between 9/11 and the runup to Iraq) and I fired off an email asking him why he was defending Bush.

To my surprise, he emailed me back with a detailed explanation of why he said what he said, and although I still didn't agree with his on-air statement, his explanation did make a good bit of sense.

He has his own reasons for doing things. I suspect this is another instance of that.

11. I sort of remember...
Josh supporting the Iraq war at the very beginning of it and now he acts as if he was against it all along...

5. It is important..
that no one take this election for granted. No one should feel like they don't need to vote, volunteer, or yes..still donate, because we've got it covered. We don't. We must be prepared for even worse attacks and the need for the tools to respond. We must be prepared for an extended legal battle in any number of states. We must be prepared for hundreds of thousands of votes not counting in any number of states. I thank anyone who raises the awareness that regardless of the polls we all need to vote, and make sure every one we know votes.

10. Josh is key to improved performance by traditional media
Josh can say whatever he wants. He's earned that right.

You should be thanking him for what he's done since Election 2000.

12. Josh Marshall Is the Best
As far as I'm concerned Josh Marshall is consistently the most incisive, worthwhile blogger on the net.

The point I took away from the post that pissed you off was that we must never, never, never, never ease up. The baseball expression is that one must run through first base. I don't know whether any Obama supporters are actually slacking off, but I do want every last one of us to fear slacking off like the plague. I fail to see how these kinds of never-give-up, take-no-prisoners attitudes help the Repiglicans in any way.
