Football fans will remember the classic Superbowl ad campaign of Terry Tate, the linebacker-turned-office manager who whipped the cubicle crowd into shape by, basically, tackling the crap out of them at unexpected turns.

Well, Terry's back!! And this time he shows up at Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin. Prepare to laugh your ass off!

the Terry Tate video—which was brand new to me, I had never seen the original one from the Super Bowl a few years ago—was not remotely misogynist. The humor comes from the exaggeration, the absurdity of his enforcer character in mundane situations. I believe he tackled a female in the office one as well, didn't he?

I understand your uncertainty about when somebody might find something offensive if you are not a member of that group. But the humor in Terry Tate does not depend on Sarah Palin being a woman. It comes from her being stupid. She has created this powerful persona and seeing her tackled as an offending fool, the bullshit artist that she is, is a terrific payoff for those of us who see right through her. The contrast between Tate barking "You've just subscribed to Terry Tate's Journal of Pain!!" & then turning to purr "Hey, Katie" to Katie Couric was brilliant.

The problem with the Bachmann situation is when a man's first reaction to her is to use a derogatory term that is reserved, of course, only for women. It's worse when a man uses the c word. The problem is that some men's minds immediately go there, to words that are meant to diminish, to reduce women to nothing more than sex vessels. Regardless of the situation. Do you see the difference?

I don't make it a practice to call women by that word, although I'd be a liar if I said I haven't before, but I would note that all of the women I know who tend to be extremely well educated, progressive and in some cases full fledged feminists use that word frequently and I don't think any less of them nor do I think it somehow makes them ignorant about issues they face as women.

Nor do I think it makes a woman a man hater to call a guy a dick,or a tool, which is the equivalent.

I think sometimes a word is just a word. We give words power, for better or for worse. In any case, the OP's video is hilarious.

He just goes into office situations and runs down and tackles all people being "stupid". Making bad decisions, etc. If you don't know the history of Terry Tate commercials, it probably doesn't come off nearly as funny.
