New ad on moveonforamerica 9/7
Just pulled this off the Kerry site

Here's a new smear ad that will be aired Sept 7th. by moveonforameria.org.

http://www.moveonforamerica.org

Please read the following article to understand what happened to make John Kerry defend Reissfelder. We need to know the truth of what happened to be ready for a rebuttal.

1. Moveon.org needs to sue the pants off these people
for creating the impression their ad is from moveon.org. There is no valid claim here that they are not trying to appear related to moveon.org.

2. Umm....Don't we have any 527s on our side?
I thought that they raised millions of dollars and that we had a lot more 527 money than the repukes?

5. MoveOn Voter Fund is a 527
The original MoveOn.org is a 501(c), and they also have a PAC, called MoveOnPAC.

I believe ACT is also a 527, and they've been hitting hard.

Confusing?

What's ironic, is that the wingnuts get all hot about MoveOn, and their ads haven't been even close to as nasty as some of the RW groups.

3. I just watched both of those ads. They are pathetic
dirt driven garbage.

I really don't think they will be effective. They will pander only to those Smirk cultists.

7. I cannot imagine that those ads will do anything
but cement the GOP's reputation as the last haven for white supremacy and open bigotry.

P.S.: Anybody else think the name of the group is so close to MoveOn so that the GOP can pretend this is some sort of Democrat dirty trick? After all, Limbaugh was telling his dittoheads last week that the slimeboatters were hired by the Clintons.

6. I'm sure it's in the works
I'm sure MoveOn has some very good lawyers ready to attack. This should be an easy C&D - this new group is pretty blatant.

I just hope MoveOn strikes soon. But this is the kind of stuff we won't hear about until it happens.

Stay tuned.

9. Here's a good article about them
Good information about the 527 laws in general. 527 groups can still broadcast ads, provided the organization is doing it with individual donations, and not corporations or unions.

http://news.findlaw.com/ap_stories/a/p/1131/9-3-2004/20040903221501_1.html

"MoveOnForAmerica.org was created due to the Bush campaign's largely timid attack ads against Mr. Kerry," its site says.

(snip)

Marks said the choice of the name was "just to get the press's attention," not to confuse potential donors.

"We want to kind of do what Moveon.org has done, but on the other side," Marks said. "We actually admire what they've done."

MoveOn.org did not return calls for comment Friday.

Other highlights:

- MOFA has raised $200K so far, and hopes to get up to $1M by Election Day. Doesn't sound like it will buy a lot of ad time.

- Founder Steven Marks is a longtime Republican political consultant. He also worked for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican Governors Association, and served as a press secretary to President Bush's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in his unsuccessful 1994 campaign.
