3. He keeps telling this pie story. He likes pie. He had pie in Ohio
The Ohio governor had lemon meringue pie. Obama likes sweet potato pie. He likes pecan pie too. The diner only had coconut cream pie. So he got that. He likes coconut cream pie. LOL!!

9. You have to understand the midwest. Pie rules there.
Pie is practically sacred to the midwest. It's a midwest thing. When Obama talks about loving pie, it's a dog whistle to the folks in the midwestern states. This guy loves pie! He's one of us!

I was born and raised smack in the middle of the midwest and have never heard of that. Wow.

30. Where were you raised? It's a rural thing. Especially in Iowa.
One of my work colleagues went to a wedding shower for her niece in Iowa and all they served was pie. Twelve different kinds of pie.

41. It's especially bad in my family
For every birthday that I remember, my parents got me a birthday PIE instead of a cake. Now that I'm in college, I still get pie for my birthday. Fortunately, as the previous poster implies, we Iowans have an obsession about pie.

It's not that I particularly hate cake, it is just that most cakes have absolutely no taste. I will eat carrot and pumpkin cake, though.

35. Here's the recipe
one unbaked deep dish pie crust (frozen is ok)
>3 1/2 pounds ripe pears cut and cored
>1/2 cup sugar
>1/4 cup crystallized ginger, chopped
>1 tbsp lemon juice
>1 tsp grated lemon peel
>3/4 cup all purpose flour, divided
>1/2 cup brown sugar
>1/3 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
>1/4 OLD-FASHIONED OATS (do NOT use instant!!!)
>
>heat oven to 400 degrees
>
>put pan with crust on cookie sheet (that way when it bubbles
>over a little, your oven won't be a total mess!)
>
>
>combine pears, 1/4 cup flour, white sugar, ginger, lemon
>juice and peel, place in crust
>
>in small bowl combine butter, brown sugar & remaining flour
>with a pastry blender (or two forks, or your hands!)
>till it is a medium crumb. Mix it oats, spread over pears and
>bake 50-60 minutes,
>
Enjoy (if you really want, some french vanilla ice cream is wicked with this!)

16. I love when he talks about pie
I have no idea why but it tickles me so. I only saw it on Rachel Maddow when they had a pie icons to represent how many times he said the word pie. The guy is just likable. I can't imagine someone not liking him. I'd love to make him a pie.

28. He started this 'pie' routine in North Philly...
and the crowd ate it up.
He had dozens of ladies pledging to bake him
a 'sweet potato pie, because I know good sweet
potato pie.' Sweet Potato pie is a soul food
classic, and is along the line of pumpkin pie,
but lighter in texture and a wonder delicacy.

Something tells me that come Thanksgiving,
the Obamas are gonna be swamped with
sweet potato pie for their family dinner.

And I think all of us should express our
thanks.. and have a sweet potato pie on
our Thanksgiving tables in honor of our
new president.

Our leaders we have lost.

Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow.
