I just average them for a lead of 5%...

The higher the turnout the more likely it is the headline number (registere voters) is correct...

18. Not necessarily this year.
It's something of an anomaly (as far as the majority of recent elections go) in that Democrats are massively more enthused by their candidate than the kooky Repubs.

I think the odds are still slightly against it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see turnout slightly down on four years ago, simply by virtue of Republicans not bothering, particularly if Obama continues to lead by a five point-ish margin up until election day and also because they simply don't think McCain is worth as much effort as Messiah George.
