I'm stunned about the Chicago Tribune's endorsement of Obama.
Just astonishing.

And they specifically mentioned Palin's selection as a disqualifer for McCain.

Truly historic. This is "when pigs fly" time.

1. Why wouldn't they endorse Obama since he's from there?
Not being from, or living there, I don't know the ways and means of that paper.

2. They've NEVER endorsed a Dem. The last time they endorsed a non-Repub was

in the late 1800s. Even though Chicago is largely Democratic, its largest paper has always been very RW. It was one of the reasons I canceled my subscription. I'm completely floored by this endorsement. It's in the realm of pigs flying and hell freezing over.

4. The Tribune has never endorsed a Democrat.
Ever. This is the first time.

The Chicago Tribune is a decidedly Republican paper.

5. It is a pure republican paper. This is a major event in politics. The fact that they
mentioned Palin as a reason is huge.

10. They have never endorsed a Democrat - and they have endorsed
Presidents for about 150 years. They are EXTREMELY conservative.

16. It is republican big time!!!
Their reporter is always critical of Obama when she speaks on TV. This is shocking to us in Illinois.

Off subject, but they are running Obama tv ads on the Illinois station down state. I noticed them today when I had it on for an hour. Of course, this could be because we share this station with the other two states of Missouri and Kentucky just as we share stations from those states.

9. Uh, grace0418...I bet some friends I'd dance naked in the street this Sunday morning....
if the Tribune endorsed Obama.

I'm going to plead "cold" + "no one REALLY wants to see that" as my excuse for backing out of THAT. :-)

7. Once in a lifetime, brother!
:hi:

This is kind of a cool time to be alive right now, despite all the bullshit going down around us. Despite Obama's flaws 9and there are many, let's not kid ourselves), the guy is changing the game. We're being vindicated, finally. The Trib endorsement is just one of the many signs that we're passing through a remarkable era.

13. Here's the endorsement.
It's very well written. They said they're proud to endorse Obama. No ambiguity whatsoever.

Enjoy. :-)

14. actually, not much of a surprise
Tribune has new ownership, and they've moved away from the 100% RW stance of the paper. Now it's only 99.999999% RW.

With Obama from Illinois and all, and the Trib increasingly worried about their bottom line, the choice was a no-brainer. The Chicago Reader, a local free paper, had a story predicting the first Trib Dem endorsement about two-three weeks ago.

I'll be curious about how many other California papers officially react to Prop 8.
