8. Exactly.
And interestingly enough, it doesn't look like HD execs have donated to McCain this year like they did in previous years for W. Funny about that. It's almost as though they KNOW McCain will lose.

7. Not under Bernie Marcus or Bob Nardelli, alas.
But Arthur, though, HE is good people. The very best.

12. Yes, and they had different politics from each other.
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 06:22 PM by morillon
Bernie was president, then Arthur was, and then Arthur got forced out in favor of Nardelli, a protege of Ken Langone's. In January of 2007, Nardelli was himself forced out, but he took a couple hundred mill parting gift on the way out the door.

14. You really did NOT want to be a HD associate when Nardelli went away
Morale dropped straight through the floor when everyone realized the man who FUCKED UP that company worse than anyone could have imagined it being fucked up received over $200 million to go the fuck away.

15. But from what I hear...
...morale started climbing when Frank abolished the executive dining room and started eating in the cafeteria. That was a very cool move on his part.

I'd love to see Nardelli lose every cent of his ill-gotten gains. To me, he's one of the poster children of all that has been wrong about America for the last eight years.

16. Outside of Atlanta, no one noticed that
Under Nardelli, "overtime hours" became a metric on managers' evaluations. Obviously the smaller that number was the better...the problem is, it's almost impossible NOT to get overtime occasionally, but that won't prevent you from getting written up for it.

While no one noticed, or cared much, that Frank Blake was eating in the breakroom, everyone noticed that while they were getting written up for helping customers Nardelli got $200-plus million for fucking up.
