McCain's air quotes "health" and torture
I was just thinking about how these two subjects are related. I mean, how could someone like McCain have come around to condone torture? Well, apparently it has to do with the definition as per John Yoo, right, about how as long as their life isn't in danger, it's not technically torture?

Well, his air quotes tonight about pregancy termination in the case of danger to the mother's "health" is actually the same sort of thing.

So a woman who's (mere) "health" is jeopardized by the pregnancy is not important, in the same way that that it's OK to torture someone as long as they don't actually die.

So there's life and there's death, but quality of life just doesn't really matter all that much. I guess that very succinctly sums up the Republican view of (other people's) lives.

That's a helluva low bar for a supposedly civilized society isn't it?

1. I have a similar but slightly different view........
About how McCain referred to a woman's "health" meaning a wide range of things, certainly health can mean a variety of things but when McCain said it, it made him look like he was trying to look for loopholes in Obama's policy.

And he made a similar comment too. Obama was talking about something and McCain pointed out when Obama said he would "look into" something. As if that meant that Obama really didn't intend to do anything about the situation but that he said he would look into it so that it would look like he was doing something.

Then, it occured to me, that he wasn't really talking about Obama. The reason why he noticed these words like "health" and "look into" was because he had done something similar! Like when he said the US does not torture and then after he looked into it, the bill included torture!
