National Republicans Drop Ads in Louisiana
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has decided to pull its television advertising out of Louisiana, a decision that drastically reduces the party's chances at its lone takeover opportunity in this election cycle.

The ads, according to buy information obtained by The Fix, will end next Tuesday -- two weeks before the Nov. 4 election between Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) and state Treasurer John Kennedy (R).

NRSC communications director Rebecca Fisher offered no comment when asked about the move to pull down the ads.

The decision to stop advertising in the race against Landrieu reflects a recognition by the NRSC of the stark financial reality it faces in the fall campaign. The Republican committee has been consistently outraised by its Democratic counterpart and, as the political environment has worsened for the GOP in recent weeks, several Republican senators that appeared safe -- Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Saxby Chambliss (Ga.) to name two -- have suddenly appeared more vulnerable.

In recent days the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has launched ads in both Kentucky and Georgia and it's not a stretch to imagine the money once earmarked for Louisiana will now make its way to defend those two incumbents. There has also been some discussion of a significant independent expenditure effort by the RNC aimed at Senate races -- first reported by Jmart -- but no specifics of any such deal have been made public.

The news is a blow for Kennedy who was personally lured into the race by former White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, and touted as one of the few recruiting successes for Senate GOPers in an admittedly difficult cycle.

2. I figured she'd be okay
The Republicans always claimed they had a shot at this, but I never bought that they really did.

4. I don't know why they would have contested this race anyway.
Are the Repukes actually NOT happy with her voting record?

7. Landrieu ripped Kennedy to shreds in the last debate...
He spent the entire time trying to call her a liberal and tie her to Barack Obama (coded message to white people to fear the black guy).

Finally Landrieu just said "John, I know you're trying really really hard. But McCain's coattails just aren't long enough for you."

14. True that
Kennedy reminds me of grampa on that old tv sitcom, 'The Munsters'! What a creep (like most Repukes)!
Landrieau is much loved here in La. and it would take a much better man than Kennedy to challenge and win her seat! I live in St. Tammany Parish (ultra red part of the state) and even the Repuke sheriff of this parish has endorsed her! Saw in the Times Picayune paper yesterday where the Louisiana Republican Party (scared) issued warnings of censure against Republicans endorsing Dems... too late - she has recieved too many endorsements from them already! heheh

9. Hah... they are desparately pouring money into Oregon's Senate race to try and save
Gordon Smith. But the trend is inexorably moving away from them. New voter stats shows the largest margin of voters in one party over another in Oregon history:

SALEM, Ore. — Led by a surge in Democratic voter signups, Oregon voter registration has set a record for the Nov. 4 election.

The secretary of state's office said 2.14 million Oregonians are registered to vote _ at least 2,000 above the previous high-water mark set in the 2004 presidential election.

Voter sign-up efforts by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's Oregon campaign and other groups have helped give the Democrats a big advantage. There are at least 230,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans in Oregon.

"We've never seen one party hold a numerical advantage that large over another party in Oregon history," said Don Hamilton, spokesman for the secretary of state's office."

someone could have said to his face, "Senator, I knew Jack Kennedy, and you're no Jack Kennedy." :P

16. I don't see how this is good for us Landrieu is right behind Joe Lieberman in GOP enabling nonsense
Its nice to know the seat will be "democratic" come November 5th, too bad an actual Democratic office holder won't be elected, but instead the DINO Landrieu.

18. Great news! IT is funny tho....
Yesterday Chuck "shilling for palin" Todd said that this race would be a problem for her.

I think I heard him say it on Hardball. I think Chuck needs to keep his punditry to himself.

20. In fairness I think he said that this was the "only Democratic seat" that was close
and that they could lose. Nobody expected that she would blow it out like this - people expected it to stay close to the end.

19. Rumor has it the NRSC is pulling ads out from Schaffer in CO too!
Rep Mark Udall (the next CO Senator - so we'll have two Dem Senators) is up 12 in the polls over oily Bob Schaffer.
