Obama: "We don’t need ACORN’s help"
OREGON, Ohio — Barack Obama for the first time on Tuesday addressed the ACORN controversy that Republicans are seeking to attach to his campaign, minimizing the impact of alleged voter registration fraud linked to the activist group and stressing ACORN is not advising his campaign.

“We’ve got the best voter registration and turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now, and we don’t need ACORN’s help,” he told reporters at the secluded leafy resort outside Toledo where he is preparing for Wednesday’s debate.

========

Exactly what I was thinking today when I heard all this crap about ACORN voter reg illegally helping Obama. Dumb. Obama has tens of thousands of volunteers working everyday, everywhere registering people. ACORN is insignificant in comparison.

2. I hate that he felt the need to repudiate the efforts
of an organization that does a lot of advocacy for poor people. The problem with the ACORN voter registration is what happens when a group has paid signature gatherers or paid petitioners. There is an incentive to lie and unfortunately some people allowed themselves to be compromised and lied. It does not refute the work that ACORN does.

I'd like to see an audit of signatures gathered for any right wing initiative such as say, an anti gay marriage amendment? How many of those signatures are going to be forged?

Anytime I've worked on a petition campaign all of the signature gatherers have been volunteers who were interested in the cause.

4. I hear ya.
I guess he weighed the political cost of defending ACORN. It would take too much effort & resources to control this message and bring it back to reality.

5. I know but it sounds like he needs to
cut the ties because of the lying wing's latest desperate grasp at the slipping straw.

to the effect of Obama having associations with ACORN.

Hypocrite.

Oh shit....as I type this, ABC then shows the video of McCain at the rally ACORN sponsored!!!!

9. According to Thom Hartmann, John McCain was the keynote
speaker at ACORN's 2006 convention. I hope Barack Obama knows this and reminds McCain of it tomorrow night. I say if McCain is going to sling mud tomorrow, Obama MUST respond in kind...

10. Yes, I'm sure the Obama camp knows. In fact...
I'd be willing to bet that anything that comes through DU and other goldmine sites full of information, they know. They have people on staff to answer smears and such seemingly 24/7, so I'm sure they're also mining sites like this to stay ahead of the curve.

:hi:

7. This is actually a brilliant move. As registration season is over with, and Obama...
really _doesn't_ need them any more. He can appear to repudiate them without saying the words, thus very effectively thumbing his nose at the McCain campaign.
