Step right up, choose your song.....please?
Okay, I've got some nice footage of Obama and I want to make a new YouTube video using it - I have a few songs in mind, but I'd love some suggestions. Is there any song that you think would work well, something inspirational and gorgeous preferably!

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

1. Pink Houses!
Starts out, 'There's a black man...,' while another line goes, 'Boy, you're gonna' be president.' Chorus, 'Ain't that America.' I think of Obama every time I hear it. The Repukes tried co-opting it, and the liberal John Mellancamp issued a cease and desist. Doubt he'd mind you're little project, however...

4. Gloria Estefan:Get On Your Feet
You say I know it's a waste of time
There's no use trying
So scared that life's gonna pass you by
Your spirit dying
Not long ago
I could feel your strength and your devotion
What was so clear, is now overcast
With mixed emotions
Deep in your heart is the answer
Find it, I know it will pull you through

Get on your feet
Get up and make it happen
Get on your feet
Stand up and take some action

I think it's true that we've all been through
Some nasty weather
Let's understand that we're here
To handle things together
You gotta keep looking onto tomorrow
There's so much in life
That's meant for you

Get on your feet
Get up and make it happen
Get on your feet
Stand up and take some action
Get on your feet
Don't stop before it's over
Get on your feet
The weight is off your shoulder

Get up and make it happen
Stand up, stand up, stand up and take some action
Gotta get on your feet, yeah, yeah
Don't stop before it's over
Get on your feet
The weight is off your shoulder
Get on your feet
Get up, get up, get up and make it happen
Get on your feet
Stand up , stand up and take some action
Get on your feet

20. Redemption Song - Bob Marley
Old pirates, yes, they rob i;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took i
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
...

26. When the Ship Comes In
Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin'.
Like the stillness in the wind
Before the hurricane begins,
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sea will split
And the ships will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
Then the tide will sound
And the waves will pound
And the morning will be breaking.

The fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they'll be a-smilin'.
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they're spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And be buried on the bottom of the ocean.

A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
And the sun will respect
Every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin'.
And the ship's wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin'.

Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin'.
But they'll pinch themselves and squeal
And they'll know that it's for real,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And they'll raise their hands,
Sayin' we'll meet all your demands,
But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh's tribe,
They'll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they'll be conquered.

54. Into The Mystic
(snip)
Lyrics for: Into The Mystic

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I dont have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I dont have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl...

27. Is Love Enough by Michael Franti
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A9uphSt5iE

We want freedom of speech
But we all talkin' at the same time
We say we want peace
But nobody wants to change their own mind, no they don't

So it goes on and on and on and on and on
For a thousand years, a thousand years I say
And it goes on and on and on and on and on
What language are your tears, are your tears

Everybody wants to live the life of kings and queens
But nobody wants to stay and plow the fields
Everybody wants to tell their neighbors how to live
But nobody wants to listen to how they feel

And it goes on and on and on and on and on
For a thousand years, a thousand years I say
And it goes on and on and on and on and on
What language are your tears, are your tears

But what I got to say right now
Is love enough yeah, love enough yeah, love enough,
Or can you love some more
Is the love enough yeah, love enough yeah, love enough
Or can you love some more
Is your love enough yeah, your love enough yeah, is your love enough
Or can you love some more
Is your love enough yeah, your love enough yeah, is your love enough
or tell me can you love some more

It goes on and on and on and on and on
For a thousand years I say
And it goes on and on and on and on
What language are your tears, are your tears

What mother nature gives
Mankind refuse to let live
Taking the universe in their own hands
Oh lets stop short-circuiting the positive
Charging the negative
Causing the most unusual circumstances
Everyday we rise like ember to life we fight again
Hoping that hearts will receive our love total
Blessed words we speak again
of the words to do my friend
for us to live in here garden of Eden

So tell me is your love enough, yeah, your love enough, yeah, is your love enough, or can you love some more
is your love enough, yeah, your love enough, yeah, is your love enough, or tell me, tell me, tell me, what's it...

What language to laugh in
What language to cry in
What language to dance in, make romance in
What language to make love in, or pray to the above in

What language are you fears
What language are you tears

37. "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now," by McFadden & Whitehead
There've been so many things that have held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin' around, yeah
I know we've got a long long way to go, yeah
And where we'll end up
I don't know
But we won't let nothing hold us back
We gonna get ourselves together
We gonna polish up our act, yeah
And if you've ever been held down before
I know that you refuse to be held down any more, yeah yeah
Don't you let nothing, nothing
Nothing stand in your way
And all we gonna do
I want you to listen, listen (That's right)
To every word I say
Every word I say about it

Ain't no stoppin' us now
We're on the move
(You said it, we've got the groove)
Ain't no stoppin' us now
We've got the groove (Whoo-hoo-oo-oo Whoo-hoo-oo)
Ain't no stoppin' us now
We're on the move
(We've got the groove)
Ain't no stoppin' us now
We've got the groove (Yeah)

52. "Mission" by Rush...
It's one of their more synth-heavy songs from the mid-80s, but I've had a soft spot for it for a while. Plus, many of the other songs that others have mentioned have been used so much.

"Mission"

Hold your fire
Keep it burning bright
Hold the flame 'til the dream ignites
A spirit with a vision is a dream
With a mission

I hear their passionate music
Read the words that touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart

When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made alive
I wish I had that instinct
I wish I had that drive

Spirits fly on dangerous missions
Imaginations on fire
Focused high on soaring ambitions
Consumed in a single desire

In the grip of a nameless possession
A slave to the drive of obsession
A spirit with a vision is a dream
With a mission

I watch their images flicker
Bringing light to a lifeless screen
I walk through their beautiful buildings
And I wish I had their dreams
But dreams don't need to have motion
To keep their spark alive
Obsession has to have action
Pride turns on the drive

It's cold comfort
To the ones without it
To know how they struggled
How they suffered about it
If their lives were exotic and strange
They would likely have gladly exchanged them
For something a little more plain
Maybe something a little more sane

We each pay a fabulous price
For our visions of paradise
But a spirit with a vision is a dream
With a mission

57. "that's when I reach for my revolver" - Mission of Burma
Ok, I know it's wrong, but I just felt like being an annoying attention getter. How about a track from Ray Davies' new CD, "Peace in our time?"

All we deserve is some peace in our time
Unconditional love is better
Peace in our time

And it really doesn't matter
'Cause the world keeps going round
Just like a rollercoaster
If you let it, it will crush you down

All we deserve is some peace in our time
I don't need no sympathy
Just some peace of mind

69. Van Morrison: "Bright Side of the Road!!!!"
Upbeat, uplifting, I love it.

If you want something a little on the country side, how about The Judds, "Love Can Build a Bridge."

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge,
Don't you think it's time,
Don't you think it's time?

73. IMAGINE
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

It's the first track... an instrumental... I could see it as a very cool tune to use for not only an Obama video but for the campaign to use in rally situations when he enters...

75. Wavelength by Van Morrison
Lyrics tie in well and the oh mama's kind of echo "Obama". :) It's also fun and upbeat (starts off slowly, FYI).

Listen here: http://www.absolutelyrics.com/lyrics/view/van_morrison/wavelength/ (orange play button to the left under the banner)

LYRICS:

This is a song about your wavelength
And my wavelength, baby
You turn me on
When you get me on your wavelength
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
With your wavelength
Oh, with your wavelength
With your wavelength
With your wavelength
Oh mama, oh mama, oh mama, oh mama oh mama, oh mama

Wavelength
Wavelength
You never let me down...no
You never let me down...no

When I'm down you always comfort me
When I'm lonely you see about me
You are ev'ry where you're 'sposed to be
And I can get your station
When I need rejuvenation

Wavelength
Wavelength
You never let me down...no
You never let me down...no

I heard the voice of America
Callin' on my wavelength
Tellin' me to tune in on my radio
I heard the voice of America
Callin' on my wavelength
Singin' "Come back, baby
Come back
Come back, baby
Come back"

Do do do dou-dit do do dou dit do do do do do
Do do do dou dit do do dou dit do do do do do

Won't you play that song again for me
About my lover, my lover in the grass, yeah, alright
You have told me 'bout my destiny
Singin' "Come back, baby
Come back
Come back, baby
Come back"

On my wavelength
Wavelength
You never let me down...no
You never let me down...no
When you get me on
When you get me on your wavelength
When you get me
Oh, yeah, Lord
You get me on your wavelength

You got yourself a boy
When you get me on
Get me on your wavelength
Ya radio, ya radio, ya radio
Ya radio, ya radio, ya radio

(Note that all the only version I could find on YouTube was an in-concert, very slow version. :( )
