Anyone notice Palin's expression after she finished her VA speech a few minutes ago?
She really seemed to be struggling to appear happy and upbeat, but failed to do so. She is either really unhappy about something (perhaps they didn't let her participate in the strategy sessions again), or really knows things are looking bad for the Palin/McCain chances. Bottom line, when you have trouble looking upbeat on national television, its a sign that things aren't so good inside moose central.

The effort of not instigating racial hatred and bigotry is giving her indigestion something fierce.

20. I agree with you.
She has lost her luster, the people of Alaska don't like this version of Palin and now they don't trust her, are looking at everything she has touched to see what smudges, if not actual breaks, she has been hiding.

Oh, the independent investigator that was hired by the personnel board to investigate the complaint - he isn't a loyal republican and may well actually be independent. Unlike the legislative committee, the personnel board can recommend she face charges if they find she violated the law.

And yes, ethical violations are violations of the law. The law she was instrumental in getting passed, the law that was a big part of her campaign for the office of gov.

Go Timothy Petumenos. That would be the ultimate backfire, the clock is ticking, election-wise. But a negative report even after the election, would be another big problem for Palin in staying in office.

46. No, she hasn't been cleared.
She allegedly is to talk to Tim Petumenos this week. From what I can gather, the personnel board report will come out before the election. Petumenos is a Democrat who contributed to Tony Knowles' campaign in 2006. Although all the members of the Personnel Board are Republicans, only one was appointed by Sarah.

Nobody disputes her right to fire him (Monegan never did); he just wants his name cleared. I heard him this morning and I wouldn't be surprised if he sued. That is, unless the Personnel Board comes down hard on her.

62. She had the right to fire Monegan,
since DPS Commissioner is an appointed post, but since her stated reason for doing so has changed at least four times since it happened, and since it seems likely that his refusal to fire Trooper Wooten was a big part of it, it's pretty clear that she did it for personal reasons, which is the problem.

49. Bwahahahahaha!
"the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after."

8. I agree. She's unhappy about something, likely her role going forward.
I suspect that the campaign has decided to tone down the role she relished last week, Harpy In Chief.

While Grumpy was giving his speech earlier, she looked like she was straining to appear interested.

She's pissed about not getting her way about something.

Although, given the number of Op-Eds coming out this weekend about Palin ruining her chances in 2012, maybe she's finally engaging in "self-reflectionering" about what she's been doing. We can all hope...

But yeah, it could be that she isn't able to whip up the anger any more also.

12. I think the Flyers game really rattled her.
At the beginning of the footage it sure looks like she turns to the guy on her right and says, "They're booing me". (I'm not a classically trained lip reader though, so maybe I'm seeing what I want to see.) I don't think she had any idea what she was in for.

They have had her so sequestered, so removed from what the rest of the world really thinks about her, she bought all the crap about America loving her.

It has to be upsetting for anyone to get booed by an entire arena of people. I think it would make me want to crawl into a dark hole somewhere. But it's got to be doubly disturbing for her because I'm SURE she went into it expecting a warm, respectful welcome.

I think it really shook her up.

Thanks, Philly. Hope Palin hasn't hexed the rest of the Flyers season.

I think EXACTLY that.
They have kept her in crowds that have been nothing but her rabid RW knuckle-dragging bottom feeder scum. And for the first time, she was thrown in the middle of a literal pack of 20,000 wolves - the Philadelphia, blue-collar, UNIONIZED, Democratic hockey fans. Yes there are some from Jersey or parts of the surrounding counties - most notably Bucks County, who might be her supporters... But the rest in there are sick of her and her ilk.

It's one thing shooting wolves from a plane and another being surrounded by them.

She's an idiot and I agree, she has thrown salt down on the... ahem... CorestatesFirstUnionWachoviaCitigroupWells Fargo Center... And that will probably negatively impact not only the Flyers, but the '76ers as well. :(

32. She's booed everywhere she goes especially in Philly
She's only been in a bubble when she's in front of a crowd of her own ilk. Otherwise, she's heartily booed and protested everywhere she goes until she gets into whatever venue she's speaking at (or puck dropping at). She was very well aware of how much Philly hates her as everywhere she's gone here there are crowds greeting her with great protest signs, chanting and booing, and those crowds are quite a bit larger than the censored ones she speaks at.

I think she fully expected to be booed at the game, and that's why she dragged her youngest cutsy daughter out on the ice wearing a Flyers shirt... then she could point to the fans and claim they were just a bunch of horrible meanies who booed HER DAUGHTER (which is just what she did).

The owner of the Flyers is a Repuke whackjob who has a hard on for Palin and wanted her there to drop the puck just for his own personal warm fuzzies... he would have known it was not only inappropriate to have a campaigning candidate singled out for recognition at a sports event and that she'd be booed, but his own hard on was more important than anything else.

If she was surprised at all it was most likely that she didn't realize how loud and how violent the negative reaction would be. It was probably the first time she ever faced a crowd that was not made up of members strickly of her own ilk, thought she could handle it, and when confronted with it found out that it upset her more than she thought it would.

55. Getting booed by PROTESTORS is very different than getting booed by the public en masse.
Protestors she expects. They follow her around. They have a clear political agenda.

But I don't think she expected an entire stadium of ordinary citizens in a swing state, with no unified political agenda, consisting largely of blue-collar white males (her #1 fans right?), to boo her out of the damn place. Hell, I didn't even expect to see it at the intensity displayed.

I think it surprised her. At worst, I think MAYBE she expected a mixed response. Not the overwhelming "get the fuck out of our arena" welcome that Joe-Six Pack, Philly fan laid down on her.

As a Washington Skins and Caps fan, I can't believe I'm saying this... but PA sports teams and their fans are winning me over left and right. The Steelers and the Flyers have won themselves a very special place in my heart.

47. It's finally sinking in what a huge mistake she made by agreeing to be McCain's running mate
Her ambition got the better of her. She was not ready for the national stage but lacked the self awareness that would have allowed for an acknowledgment of that fact. If she were truly savvy, she would have turned him down while having a PR machine spin something about how she had been the front runner but turned it down because there was still unfinished business in Alaska and "while honored and confident in her abilities to be a Vice President of which the country would be proud, she wanted the challenges that being Alaska's top executive would bring her". Her political instincts are terrible. She's going to fade into political oblivion. We might see her on Fox News someday though.
