McCain's new stump speech... 'We’ve got them just where we want them'
*** 'We’ve got them just where we want them': With McCain down in the national polls -- 10 points (53%-43%) in the latest Washington Post/ABC survey -- McCain’s campaign says the Arizona senator will unveil a new stump speech that casts him as the underdog and as a fighter. "Let me give you the state of the race today,” he is expected to say. “We have 22 days to go. We’re six points down. The national media has written us off. Sen. Obama is measuring the drapes, and planning with Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Reid to raise taxes, increase spending, take away your right to vote by secret ballot in labor elections, and concede defeat in Iraq. But they forgot to let you decide. My friends, we’ve got them just where we want them.” More: "What America needs in this hour is a fighter; someone who puts all his cards on the table and trusts the judgment of the American people. I come from a long line of McCains who believed that to love America is to fight for her. I have fought for you most of my life. There are other ways to love this country, but I’ve never been the kind to do it from the sidelines."

Wait, has he gone totally geriatric? Raise our taxes? Maybe McCain will have his taxes raised under Obama, but my family sure won't be taxed more. And uh, McSame .. you're 10-11 points down. Also for the record there "pal" .. I'm not you friend, nor are you a fighter. You're a douche ... see look I even found it in a Thesaurus!

Now ... the "take away your right to vote by secret ballot in labor elections" I've not heard.... WTF is that all about? Eh? Eh?

3. Funny, this sounds EXACTLY like a Hillary Clinton speech...
...from the last 2 weeks of the primary when there was mathematically no way she could win.

4. how to lose an election
Attempt to reboot your campaign by making a completely generic speech filled with cliches, like "Our opponent is already measuring the drapes."

8. When I first saw this at TPM, I thought that Joshua Micah Marshall was joking...
...when he wrote that McCain was going to say, 'We’ve got them just where we want them.'

But it's not a joke!

Trailing in the national polls and in state polls is apparently just where McCain wants to be.

9. Um, okay.
But it looks like Obama is the one who is the fighter being he's up a bit in the polls right now. 'We got them right where we want them?' Yeah, you sure do. You and your party have RUINED this country and probably bankrupted a large portion of America. Nice work!

Ironic, coming from a guy who's used his office to help the rich and hob knob with them. :eyes:

16. something like that would be good...
...but a presidential candidate can't say that the US has been "ruined."

you beat me to it. The difference. Hillary was actually talented enough because she is intelligent to be effective McCain couldn't use Hillary's strategy if she was giving it to him through an earpiece.

17. Wow. Even the McCain campaign wants Obama to win.
Obama is winning and McCain says that's "right where he wants him" to be.

Fascinating.

but, damn, they are awful. And McCain is so erratic I can see how Bush beat him, no discipline at all.
