Democrats at Oregon State Fair

On a positive note, we spent today in Salem OR at the state fair. This is an event that attracts a pretty good concentration of rural, conservative people, as well a wide array of others. Observations:

- a lot of interest and traffic at the Democratic booth.

- We had twice as many volunteers at our booth(almost too many)as the Repubs, and they had a "Zell Miller Democrat" helping at theirs. Where do they get these guys?

- The Democrats I talked to are enthusiastic about Kerry and Edwards.

- I talked to two Republicans who plan to vote for Kerry and one Repub who thinks "they are both good" so she doesn't know yet. Pay attention!

- We had several veterans stop by, including an older Navy man who registered Democratic, and WW2 Marine vet, who told me "you know, that Newt Gingrich is about the lowest slime on Earth!" I had to agree.
