I had a dream with Barack Obama.
I do get some incredibly vivid dreams, though this week was more intense than usual. The first two were incredibly whacky, but they're personal so you all don't get to hear about them. The third was just as involved, and the part that involved Barack was probably the sanest. I was in a sports park where there were soccer fields, basketball courts etc. and saying good-by to someone and as I was leaving, everyone was aware that Barack was driving into the parking lot. It is funny that though everyone was aware of this at once, no one changed their behavior because this was dream-knowledge, which is subconscious awareness and not something you can act on in real time. I just remember my friend thinking without saying it, "Aren't you sorry you have to do something else and can't stay?"

So I walk to my car, Barack is pulling his gear out of the trunk of his car and turning around, has to pass by me to get on the field, he nods hello, very unassuming guy, I look at him and say, "Have a good day... Mr. President." He looks at me and smiles, somehow we both know it's not an invitation for further conversation because we continue on our way without stopping to talk. Then I get into my car and the odd thing is that my apartment is on the other side of the field where the basketball courts are located, and as I'm walking on the other side of the fence, I notice that a crowd has surrounded Barack, he's part talking, part playing basketball, though he's no Michael Jordan, it doesn't matter. He has an infectious, park-fun effect on the crowd. I notice two guys who are dressed like Men in Black, with black hats, looking around over the top of the crowd, obviously Barack's "secret" agents. I have a momentary feeling that this is a very real concern and that it's not foreign terrorists they were worried about. But feel, not this day, this day is safe and I leave watching the crowd interacting with Barack, most of them in awe of him, mostly because he's so approachable and genuinely easy to get along with.

And then I go upstairs to my apartment where my roommate is in the middle of morphing into some other world being creature...oh, hey, it's a few weeks before Halloween and that's all that's playing on t.v. these days.

Don't worry, I've already figured out the Barack part. Has to do with watching his campaign mostly peripherally on t.v. The brain is just reflecting what it has been watching, peripherally.

1. Wow....I had one a couple nights ago. It was scary, like the Michael Schwerner story
Michael Schwerner was among the three students rounded up and murdered in Mississippi for coming down from the Northeast and organizing.

My dream:

Barack was driving and I was a passenger in a large American sedan, on our way somewhere at night.

Everything was cool, until we seemed to get lost in an unpopulated area. As the pavement turned to gravel and dirt I started to worry.

When I saw the headlights behind us of first one, and then two cars, our road was about to end, going a little downhill and into a river and lake, at which point Barack stopped the car.

I remember being really worried about Barack's driving skills, the car was stopped and we needed to back up, and I didn't think his skills would be very good, like he'd spin the wheels or otherwise not get us out of this well.

I told him to just listen to me and do exactly what I said, put it in reverse and give it gas very slowly, and I told him how to turn left or right and we squeezed past the cars and were able to at least get back on a road.

Still lost, we came to a community, a large community open space, all green and trim, and I felt safe, but it was like some rich white people enclave, and we were notice by some and somebody pushed a flower cart into the street to block our car, so what seemed to be a safe public place when we first got there turned out not to be.

This meant we needed to keep moving and maybe leave that place.

On the other end of the big oval grassy square Barack took the car the wrong way into another dead end and we put the car in park and decided to get out.

We hoped that when we got out that people would recognize him and even if they didn't like him they'd be kind of excited to see him and with so many more people around, it might not turn out badly, like it would have back on the dirt road.

So we got out, we were on a higher point than the people who began walking toward us, and I remember looking out and seeing the expressions on the faces of the people who were walking toward us, and they were not looking happy.

Before I woke up, I believe the thing we decided, or Barack decided to do, was to just start talking to these people, that his words and the passion behind them would keep us safe.

I think this was a strategy that would have worked.

But I woke up.

3. What a great dream.
It says quite a bit. We're all behind him, but we have fears based on our experiences. Your dream was such a reflection of life. I know that place, that open community where you thought was safe. I know it well.

6. It was/is a microcosm of reality.
He's in the driver's seat, but he needs our help (he sooooo would have spun out the wheels), and as his passengers we give our future over to him.

He's also being hunted by the same types who murdered those students in Mississippi.

Then when we got to the open community where he was received with hostility, he was going to take a stand and win them over, or at least earn their respect, by talking directly to them with honesty and sincerity, and I wasn't about to leave his side.

I hadn't thought about it in exactly these terms until reading you reply, so a big huge "thank you"!

2. Recently there was a segment on NPR about Americans and
their dreams during this political season. Many had dreams of Obama nobody reported dreaming of McSame; apparently he doesn't make enough of an impact to permeate our dreams. I had a dream of Obama last night, but I don't remember it now that I am awake.

4. I'm getting better at staying "alert" during some of the REM-like moments
and I can actually see how the symbolism morphs to become something else. One night it was very much like that LSD experience that people talk about. (Never tried the stuff, myself) I haven't been able to experience it, quit that vividly again.

5. I love dreams..
Some people have prophetic dreams..others' are just entertainment in the subconcious. I had a dream about Obama during the primaries..something in an ice cream parlor. I wish I had written it down now for posterity.

Very Cool Dream, Backlash..thanks for the report from Dreamland:)

7. Mine are rarely prophetic.
At the very best, they provide a different analytical approach to resolving problems or issues.
