Anyone watching MTP? ... Brokaw is acting like somebody died
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 10:00 AM by President Decider
It looks like Brokaw has finally come to terms that his beloved GOP isn't going to pull this out of the bag. He's talking like this is a wake ...

I did notice however that he didn't say much at all about Palin being found GUILTY of abusing her power in the Trooper Gate Report. He quickly dismissed it as a "speed bump" which I think is total horseshit. He and his Repub guest also quickly dispelled the notion that Palin is now becoming a drag on their ticket because she'd only exciting hard-liners within their base and nobody else.

Brokaw will forever be remembered in my book as a GOP HACK who was brought in to carry his party's water and help them pull it out.

God Bless Tim Russert ... I miss the guy terribly.

13. FWIW, Brokow Seems To Have Leaned More To The Right Than He
has in past years. Whether he's changed his political affiliation is something I don't know, but in the past there was talk that we was going to enter politics to run for Governor in NY, as a Democrat.

I don't SEE that Democrat leaning these days, and he may have actually decided he's become more "Joe Lieberman" to some extent. I'm NOT liking what I see though! I also think, Russert who was always known to be a Democrat might have been controlled more by higher ups and what THEY wanted presented on MTP!

However, I DO FEEL Brokow has taken it a step further than Russert did.

20. The only thing I found on Brokaw was this from Wiki....
That he was going to replace Dan Rather because Dan Rather was too "hostile" to Nixon:

From 1973-1976 he was an NBC News White House correspondent, covering the Watergate scandal. During this time, he was asked by the higher-rated CBS News to join it after CBS's management had decided its reporter, Dan Rather, was too hostile to then-President Richard Nixon. The switch never happened after word of it was leaked to the press.

And also that he accompanied a Republican governor as a high schooler:

As a high school student attending Yankton Senior High School,<6> Brokaw was governor of South Dakota American Legion Boys State, and in that capacity he accompanied then South Dakota Governor Joe Foss to New York City for a joint appearance on a TV game show. It was to be the beginning of a long relationship with Foss, whom Brokaw would later feature in his book about World War II veterans, The Greatest Generation.

24. Brokaw personally saw to it that Keith O. was removed from covering the RNC convention
and he had Tweety muzzled during the convention as well. Keith was relegated to doing "Hurricane Gustav reporting" and Tweety was constrained from what he was permitted to say, essentially handed "The Narrative" and forced to repeat it. And this despite the fact that repuke blowhard ilk like Pat Pukecanan, Andrea Mitchell, and David Gregory were permitted to spout off massive amounts of RW-sewage during the DNC convention just the week before.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/30/tom-brokaw-act...

Whatever he was before, he's a RW shill now.

6. I agree that the Troopergate thing is probably more of a speed bump than
the GAME ENDER we were hoping for. It may have sent some people to our side, but the issue paramount in peoples' minds is 'how are you going to help me survive financially?'. It's like people have been saying, when your life is on the line you don't care about the surgeon's past, just if s/he can save your life NOW.

35. The only reason it's not the game ender
is because we've already had the game ender (anybody here check their 401k recently?).

We've not just had the game ender, we've had the postgame show ("And now it's Springtime for Hitler and Germany Palin and McCain... Republicans are furious and insane!")

Now we just need to make sure they don't steal the trophy and run off with it.

I was pretty harsh on Russert when he was alive, but now that he's gone, I can see how much better he was than his peers. Our democracy is weaker for his loss. He never would've let Palin get away with her Troopergate lies.

I think it is a personal thing with John McCain. They are buds and he can't get past it. Of course I don't know the man, so it is only speculation on my part. Either way, he has certainly tarnished his reputation in this election season.

40. That's why Cheney's media team made Russert their go-to guy
when they wanted to "get the message out." Because he was "objective" to the point of being invisible. If he wasn't partisan, then he was inexcusably lazy and substituted stupid "gotcha" attacks for actual fact-checking and research. He was also an ass-kisser and an unthinking purveyor of RW narratives. He was a sorry excuse for a journalist, IMO, though by all accounts he was a decent human being in all other regards.

42. I'm glad the GOP has publicaly admitted that ethics violations
are merely a speed bump for their candidates.

We Dems have higher standards for our politicians. We lost a candidate this year because he admitted having an affair. Of course, Palin and McCain have both had affairs, but in typical Alpha Male Bully GOP fashion, they refuse to admit this let alone apologize for it, hence-- they maintain their high standing. what a sad little joke for the family values ticket.

McCain.Palin' -- making history one ethics violation at a time. they cheated on their spouses, but YOU should trust them. They dare to question their opponents, but even their spouses don't know who these two reptiles are.
