"What?? Nooo!!"
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 11:56 AM by Chichiri
Two words that will, to me, forever sum up the John McCain legacy. You can hear them starting at 0:38 at the video here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=211838&mesg_id=211838

MCCAIN: I have to tell you, he (Obama) is a decent person, and a person that you do not have to be scared, as President of the United States.

WOMAN IN CROWD: What??

MCCAIN: Now, I-I just, now I just--

WOMAN IN CROWD: Nooo!!

Whoever she is, you can tell from the crowd reaction that she expressed the very same sentiments they were feeling, perfectly. There is nothing special about her, except that she is particularly loud, and particularly high-pitched, and her voice stuck out in the crowd. And yes, there is weak applause when McCain talks about politics being respectful and how he's just better than Obama -- but thanks to the work of his campaign, that's no longer what all this is about for many if not most of the McCain partisans. For them, this is all about Barack Hussein Obama, terrorist, Muslim, bad guy.

McCain created hate because he wanted to win. Too late, he has discovered that hate is not easily un-created. That will be the legacy, and the tragedy, of the once-great John Sidney McCain III.

1. Gayle Quinnell

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., right, takes back the microphone from Gayle Quinnell who said she read about Sen. Barack Obama and 'that he was an Arab,' during a question and answer time at a town hall meeting at Lakeville South High School Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 in Lakeville, Minn.

A retired Marine helicopter pilot of my acquaintance who served in Viet Nam said, when I asked him what he thought of McCain,"Shit, he ain't no hero. He fucked up."

5. Yeah - he was quite "weird" starting at 38 seconds
with all the stammering.

Unfortunately he can't put the genie back in the bottle. This is scary. Even if he loses he's setting us his followers to think Obama will not be legitimate because he's not "one of them" and that somehow there was voter fraud perpetrated by ACORN. This all at a time when we need to be able to pull together to get thru some tough times.
