4. You've got that right - it's pathetic that we have reached this point
Too little, too late I'm afraid. They've already sown the seeds of dissent and hatred and stoked it until its out of control. Nothing that senile old man says will change a damn thing.

21. This will seal the end of his campaign - the GOP probably had to reel his ass in
He single-handedly set the GOP back 6 months - maybe more - in terms of this campaign in just two days of this bullshit. The GOP has to be seething watching the result of McCain's KKK/Nazi scorched earth policy.

I won't shed a tear for them. Hopefully they will be remembered in history as the most pathetic and dishonest people that have ever been associated with our country.

24. They were mad about it back then - but somehow he became their nominee
McCain was the absolute worst pick they could have made in this cycle for a variety of reasons, many of them we are seeing play out today.

I don't think the few sane voices in the GOP expected this campaign to degenerate to this point. It's absolutely surreal to think about. I expected racism and suggestions of "being a muslim", but I have to say I'm surprised at how far they took it - they took it as far as you can take it.

23. They were talking about internal polling numbers being behind the decision, but I think you're right
I'll bet that there has been a big uptick in threats against Obama, and the Republicans realize that cannot risk allowing this to continue. The hate and vitriol spewing forth out of those true believers' mouths are a very ugly reflection of what McCain's campaign has become.

33. not just Osama's life
I lived through JFK, RFK and MLK, Jr. If McShame and co manage to incite one of those whackjobs to assassinate Obama, there would be blood in the streets. The rethugs know it and the secret service knows it. They're coming dangerously close to igniting a civil war, and the blood would be on their hands. They are a disgace.

5. Too little, too late.
He created a monster, now he can't control it. His own supporters turned on him just because he said there was nothing to fear from an Obama presidency. Truly pathetic.

6. Actually, it's quite serious. McCain has been warned I'm sure
by both rethugs and SS to knock it off and rein in Palin. They're encouraging rabid nutty klanner types and it's not good.

7. I don't know why McCain suddenly cares.
Did the Secret Service talk to him?

Is his internal polling showing growing unfavorables due to the rabid-rallies?

Is he trying to appear to suddenly be "above" his supporters? (FAIL)

McCain/Palin let the genie out of the bottle.

31. That was the disgusting Nicole Wallace who twisted Obama's words.
SHe was disgusting. WHen Obama clearly criticized the McCain campaign for recklessly stirring up anger in their rallies, Nicole turned it around to PRETEND Obama was criticizing the people at the rally.

It was clear that he was criticizing the campaign and yet the news stations just report the "statement from McCain spokesperson Nicole Wallace." They let the comment stand without even a slight disclaimer noting that Obama was clearly criticizing the campaign management.

I hope to hell MSM doesn't play this clip over and over, which is exactly McCain's intent - to generate the "Obama as Arab" meme while McCain can play the "who, me?" card.

I'm so sick of this shit.

The nutcases are coming out of the woodwork to attend the McCain/Palin rallies so they can scream their hate from the rooftops. These people are not Americans. They're made of the same cloth as Nazi's.

17. "McCain forced to defend Obama from angry supporters." What did they expect?
All these years of Faux, Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, et al?

Why the hell is the "mainstream media" surprised? Why was this such an underreported story for so long?

McCain in his bubble honestly had no idea what was out there, I think. Oh, he's happy to use it, but I think he's genuinely surprised to see the level of dittohead hate showing up at his rallies.

Believe me, his advisers knew, and this is their Hail Mary pass.

20. In other words, McCain associates Obama with the words "scary Arab."
Barbara Boxer said this statement is smarmy in that it is akin to saying "McCain is not a frightening, angry, erratic old man" ~ Not an exact quote, but you get my point.

28. McCain is like a sly attorney....get the witness to say something you WANT the jury to hear

...but know that its going to get over-ruled by the judge... Damage is DONE...and he thinks that 3 days later, saying that Obama is a good Christian family man...not an Arab? C'mon...he's been in politics for 25+ years remember...he's NOT new to this...he's the Mav'WRECK...

this is so blatantly disgusting...

This is what I’m gonna hear from my right wing “friends”: so i put on fox news and apparently mccain was taking up for obama today...wow, isn't that what i just wished for!! yippee… :puke:

30. I haven't used the word landslide - trying to keep focused on the game
But with all thats happened in the past two weeks, and this week in particular, I am starting to think that the potential for that happening anyway is growing exponentially.
