Lots of people honking horns in support of the protest. I could barely hear the reporter on the local news due to the noise.

THAT should be fun to watch. Let's face it, fans in Philadelphia have been known to boo Santa. Can't imagine how they'll be reacting to the increased security delays for Caribou Barbie, not to mention how true blue Philly is.

McSame/Failin need their collective heads examined for planning the Flyers event.

54. Jim Roddey/Pgh. GOP Chairman/ known as "The Swordsman of Shadyside"
for his multiple sexual conquests (while married, of course). I have multiple sources for that information, including one "hot" GOP babe whose marriage was destroyed by her affair with Roddey. Shadyside is an upscale urban neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Roddey made a good part of his fortune from privatized prisons known for substandard food and refusing medical treatment to prisoners with serious problems like cancer. A real typical, GOP, silver-haired snake.

The Straight Talk Express zooms by, windows heavily tinted. Princess Palin is to be shielded from the masses and sneak in the backdoor like rat. But you can't hide forever like Cheney, Sarah! The People are wise to you, and there are bound to be many more of us now we've heard the Troopergate report. And you know what they say: the people, united, will never be defeated.

Pittsburgh made me proud of my country today. :patriot:

73. Pittsburgh protest Palin
Has there been any event since Sarah Palin appeared on the national stage where she drew more protesters than attendees of one of her political appearances? It happened in Pittsburgh yesterday. The RNC must be breathing a sigh of relief that no newspapers or TV stations in Pittsburgh decided to headline their story "Protesters outnumber attendees of Palin fundraising appearance in Pittsburgh". The Pittsburgh Post Gazette coverage of the Palin protest yesterday was pretty weak I thought. Their title was SOOO misleading and on a day when even McCain recognized publically how out of step his campaign has gotten. Instead, the Post Gazette followed their "Palin Gets Warm Welcome at GOP Fundraiser Here" headline with "cocktail downing big money supporters who want the gloves off and red meat". Even McCain has publically noticed yesterday his side has brought an ugly out of control character to the campaign. Their gushy headline and thin coverage especially compared to some of the Tribune Review's coverage seemed totally out of tune with the days national news cycle. It appears the protesters outnumbered the people who came to hear Palin speak! That is, if the Trib actually estimates crowds better than the Post Gazette does. I would never have thought so! They certainly would have no reason to have a much higher estimate of protesters.
There might have been a real national story of interest if it was headlined "Protesters Outnumber Attendees of Palin talk". That would be news- if anyone could count. Granted the Post Gazette count and other TV coverage count may have the more accurate count than the Trib's count. I for one do not know. If it is, then the headline would read "An equal number of protesters turned out for the number of attendees" yada yada. It still is news and has never yet happened until Pittsburgh. For all of the media, both TV and print not to have been able to count such a small crowd within a better margin accuracy is pretty amazing. Several helicopters flew over and someone may be able to wring a real number if they filmed from above.
At yesterday's protest to me it seemed like there were a total of two McCain/Palin supporters out of 200-300 protesters and they were together. (Pittsburgh Post Gazette, considered by some to by somewhat liberal, estimated crowd at about 200. The Tribune Review, owned by uber-conservative Richard Mellon Scaife, estimated crowd at about 300.) I was there from 2:45Pm to 5:30PM and I was very near the two Mccain/Palin supporters much of the time, because it was less crowded, and I didn't see any of the things they complained about to the TV and other news media. One of these two McCain/ Palin supporters crossed the street seeking media attention from the Channel 11 (local NBC affiliate) truck parked there. The police came and escorted that McCain/ Palin person back to the side walk where everyone had been told to stand repeatedly. These two McCain/ Palin supporters told the media how rude and out of control the Obama supporters were about standing on the sidewalks- but they were standing there too- that's where we were all told to stand. Most of all protesters didn't talk to them at all and gave them a little bubble of space. Both newspaper reports below say that while police were surprised at the size of the protest, there were no crowd or behavior problems at all. Because these two McCain/Palin people were the lone supporters every media person interviewed them. No one who wasn't there would have guessed from the print or other media coverage how little McCain/Palin support there was. Except perhaps surprisingly the Tribune Review sited the actual numbers with protesters very much outnumbering the attendees. They just didn't make it a headline. Steelworkers and unions there to protest palin's appearance had screen printed protest signs, but much like the groundswell of small donors to the Obama campaign, most all of the other protesters had home made signs. One was fashioned after the iconic red white and blue silkscreen of Obama's face with the word HOPE under it. However, it was Palin's face and it said DOPE under it.

Regarding the Oct 10, 2008 Palin Fundraiser in Pittsburgh and the protest to that Palin appearance in Pittsburgh:

Pittsburgh Tribune Review owned by uber conservative Richard Mellon Scaife reported:

Title of article: Palin Defends Firing of Alaska Official

"About 200 people attended.the fundraiser at the Westin Convention Center Hotel, Downtown, cost $1,000. Supporters could have their pictures taken with Palin for $10,000, or participate in a roundtable discussion with her for $25,000.".

"About 300 protesters gathered on two corners of 10th Street and Penn Avenue across 10th Street from the Westin. The crowd was boisterous but not unruly. Police said no arrests were made."

Pittsburgh Post Gazette The Pittsburgh paper of widest circulation considered by many to be somewhat liberal in its stance reported:

Title of article: Palin Gets Warm Welcome at GOP Fundraiser Here

."By the time Ms. Palin walked onto the podium at 6:24 p.m., the staunchly Republican audience, dressed mostly in business attire and downing cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, was ready for some red meat.".

."Outside the convention center, about 200 people --almost all of them Obama supporters -- gathered at 10th Street and Penn Avenue, chanting, banging drums and waving signs. Police expressed surprised at the crowd's size, but there were no control problems."...

."The crowd had a handful of McCain supporters. One was Lawrenceville's Steven Satzger, carrying a "Democrats for McCain" sign and wearing a Hillary Clinton T-shirt.".

My note- all the TV coverage does not really show the proportion of protesters (200-300) to supporters (about 2) at all.
