You do know why the pugs are pushing this ACORN thing, right?
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 05:47 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The general thrust of the ACORN story in RW circles is that all black people will somehow end up voting about ten times.

Fox news is all about how "the fix is in for Obama" with a month left to go. That probably doesn't help any Republican get elected--it's not great for turn-out--but it isn't meant to. Knowing they will lose, they are hard at work writing the mythology upon which they will feed in the out years.

Most Fox viewers will believe Obama was not properly elected, and the bigger the landslide the more obvious the fraud.

These pugs plan for the out years. Every time the Dems get control of the whole government the American people are then whipped up into a rage. 1976. 1992.

I saw my first IMPEACH CLINTON bumper-sticker less than a week after the election in 1992... months before he was inaugurated.

2. It's even more simple than that. When they try to scrub our votes,
they can just say "ACORN".

ACORN, who has been found INNOCENT of anything voter fraud at all!

Classic right wing smear.

3.  Dolchstoß
The stab-in-the-back legend (German: Dolchstoßlegende (help·info), literally "Dagger stab legend") refers to a social myth theory popular in Germany in the period after World War I through World War II. It attributed Germany's defeat to a number of domestic factors. Most notably, the theory proclaimed that the public had failed to respond to its "patriotic calling" at the most crucial of times and some had even intentionally "sabotaged the war effort."

4. A side benefit for them...
When they get nailed for all the massive voter fraud they'll be engaged in, they can point to the Democratic side and say "They did it too!!!"

7. You're probably right -- and I saw the same bumper sticker before Inauguration.
Times are different, though -- there hadn't been quite the full-on proof of conservatism as failed philosophy that there is now.

I have a feeling that the 'whipped-up rage' is going to be so great their heads will explode. I predict less a coordinated 'Impeach Barack' movement than a rise in hate-crimes against liberals, a corresponding rise in the incarceration rate of wingnuts, wingnut suicides, and a fleeing of wingnuts from the country.

One can hope. I think many of them are going to be too depressed to do anything, for awhile.

9. Republicans will be less numerous but more venomous.
The pug movement will contrct at first. After sluffing off all moderates the hard-core will be able to indulge themselves. I expect the remaining RW core to go beyond anything we've seen... like the late 1930s Bund movements in the midwest and the Klan 1915-1925.

8. During the very Clinton Inauguration
commentators said there was trouble on the horizon because of these "Whitewater" allegations. It was said in such a way as to convey great seriousness.

10. It's probably a smokescreen to keep the light off the Republican
voting machine companies. If someone wants to monkey with the vote, it's not going to be by voter registration.

11. anger and blame and hypocrisy - that's all they've got -
I just saw tape on PBS of McCain plant voters complaining about how they are angry that he's losing.

It's kind of sad, actually.

12. We will have to keep on fighting then.....
....for years to come. After the election we all need to commit to staying involved. Voter issues need to still be worked on, smear campaigns need to be shamed out of the process, we need to stay on top of our elected officials and make sure that we are getting our issues heard and responded to, and on and on and on. If we want change we can't rely on or expect our politicians to be the only accountable figures. We have to take action and encourage those around us to do the same.

13. It's also a way to obscure the VERY REAL PROBLEM of election fraud and vote suppression
They are caging and purging the rolls of MILLIONS of voters all over the country.

14. yes but if the registration numbers that phrigndumass thread hold true
they will only succeed to in discrediting themselves. It shows white areas going up as much as black areas.

Also with if there is a landslide the remaining Republicans will be lining up to show how much they want to help - not hurt the new president.

16. The Big Lie, grantcart. The bigger the better.
Someone winning a landslide through fraud is unlikely, but it's a lot likelier than that Obama as an al qeada sleeper-agent.

17. I remember how quickly the anti-Clinton stuff started.
I was at a redneck flea market, and saw some sticker in which the "C" in Clinton was a hammer and sickle. I thought, "yeah right, I wish!" We need to hit at the politically and ideologically, and prevent them from forming a coherent opposition.
