1. First of all elections don't have to happen until May 2006
Blair can call an election for anytime before then (with only about 3-4 weeks notice)
Second of all the current polls in Britain still have Blair winning the election. The Labour party still has about a 5% lead on the Conservatives. Also keep in mind due to the peculiarities of the British electoral system, the Conservatives would have to have a lead of over 5% just to deny Labour a majority (Britain has first-past-the-post elections, no proportional representation)
