McCain isn't putting any money behind an Ayers ad
October 09, 2008
Categories: John McCain

Pressing Ayers

McCain isn't putting any money behind an Ayers ad at the moment, but he is still pressing the issue, Amie Parnes reports from his Wisconsin town hall.

There, a man asked how Obama came to be where he is -- but didn't mention Ayers.

"Everyone here is just tickled what you're doing for us and we're all wondering why Obama is where he's at. How he got here. Everybody in this room is stunned we're in this position. We're all a product of our association. Is there not a way to get around this media and line up the people that he has hung with?" the man asked.

McCain responded:

"Well sir, with your help and the people in this room we will find out. Just as Senator Clinton said in the primary that we should find out about this association.

"Look, we don't care about an old washed-up terrorist and his wife who still, at least on Sept. 11, 2001 said he still wanted to bomb more. That's not the point here. The point is Senator Obama said he was just a guy in the neighborhood. We know that's just not true. We need to know the full extent of the relationship because of whether Senator Obama is telling the truth to the American people or not. That's the question."

NOTE: I'd initially said McCain dropped Ayers from his stump speech. In fact, Ayers has dropped from Palin's stump speech at their joint appearances. He was never in McCain's.

2. I bet the first TV ad comes after the third debate.
McCain doesn't want to defend his smears there.
And I don't trust his camaign at all, maybe that just is like they "pull ads" after the "supsension". Suuuuure.

5. I'm wondering if we're going to go after McCain and his bad temper..
or Palin and her connection to Dominionist whackjobs, pretty well documented in the video in my sig line.

And McCain's temper and rage. He's never been stable, it's a fair issue.

7. Ayers wished he'd done more to end the war, not by bombing, and not 9-11 related.
All the GOP are running with bomb more. Even a has-been on local NYC TV.

...lowest bullshit they could possibly throw, and I have yet to hear a pundit chastise these sleazy McCain people for making the analogy. There is NO comaparison. Makes me nauseous.

8. Obama has already expressed his disappointment
that McCain is too chickenshit to say it to his face.

9. Someone here mentioned promised "fireworks" 72 hrs. before the election
by the Republicans. My guess is that this is a set-up for the "fireworks"...72 hours before the election, they will offer up something they consider to be "proof." But I'm sure the Obama team is prepared for whatever they do.
