WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Kerry-Edwards campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill released the following statement today in advance of the president's convention speech:
"Tonight George Bush will tell us that this is a moment in history that will be remembered. But it will be remembered for the failures and divisiveness of his leadership.
"George Bush squandered our unity and our prosperity. These four negative nights have confirmed the obvious - this country can't take four more years of George Bush's callous presidency.
"Forty minutes of a speech can't make up for four years of failure and for Bush policies which take America in the wrong direction.
"The last four years have been an abject failure: almost 2 million lost jobs, 5 million more without health care coverage, health care and energy costs going through the roof and a mess in Iraq that has cost America over $200 billion.
"The president once again will stubbornly refuse to face up to his failures and change course. We can expect the president to again mislead the American people - not only about his record in the past but about plans for the future. We will hear a warmed over repetition of promises he made in 2000 and has broken ever since. John Kerry and John Edwards will present America with plans for jobs, health care, energy and national security to make America stronger at home and respected in the world."
