Barack Obama set for landslide victory say aides
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 06:52 PM by nam78_two
Obligatory statement here about not counting unhatched chickens etc. ;). Still great to see these stories-I am, feeling pretty optimistic right now :toast:.

http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/world/275337/barack-obama-set-for-landslide-victory-say-aides.html

Barack Obama is set for a landslide victory over John McCain in the presidential elections, according to his senior aides.

Optimism in the Democratic camp is so high that aides believe Obama will surpass all current predictions in the race to enter the White House.

The confidence from the Democratic campaigners has emerged from information given from private polling and the strong political support Obama has developed in the key swing states.

The Senator's own optimism has sprung from a belief that the strength of first time Democratic voters in several key states has been underestimated – by the media and the Republican party.
...

Obama aides now believe he has a good chance of winning nine states won by George W.Bush in the 2000 election, including Republican monopolies like North Carolina, Virginia and Indiana – who have not voted Democrat for at least a generation.

:bounce: President Obama :bounce:!

8. My husband has been saying for several weeks now that it'd be a landslide.
He says specifically an electoral landslide. He hasn't wavered from that. He also said that duhbya would wind up in the 20's, approval-wise, and maybe even down in the teens by the time he's shown the door.

So far, his predictions have been pretty good.

18. Wrong, Obama is up an average of about 8 pts, we need to work like we want to be 20 up
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7317207

Its about the down ticket races

1932: FDR is elected. On his coat tails, a 97 seat DEM pick up in the House, flipping the House to the Dems. And 12 seats are picked up in the US Senate.

Thats whats at stake, the SUPER MAJORITY.

WE need to work to be 20 up.

26. I agree Garbageman
I live in NE Ohio and have been disappointed with our sports teams my whole life. Last year the Indians were up 3-1 in the fight for the ALCS against Boston. So many people thought it was "in the bag." Boston came back and won the next three games to knock the Indians out of the playoffs.

I can't stand the thought of losing on Nov 4th so I just keep my head down and work my ass off making it happen.

6. This is a psych-ops story recycled from right wing rag Telegraph UK designed to make us complacent
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 07:02 PM by ClarkUSA
Don't fall for it -- do you really think the famously tightlipped Obama inner circle would be leaking to reporters about this
when they have said all along that it would be close?

7. Right--It's reason to be optimistic, but...
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 07:50 PM by rocknation
...Chief strategist...David Axelrod commented: "Public polling companies and the media have underestimated the scale of new Democratic voters...We're much stronger on the ground in Virginia and North Carolina than people realize. If we get out the vote, this may not be close at all."

This is the only direct quote in the story, and apparently the reporter spoke with (unnamed) "Obama senior aides" in addition to Axlerod. Also, please note that Axlerod explicitly qualified his statement--we'll have to get on the ground and get out the vote. That's a far cry from "Obama Is Set For A Landslide."

9. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't like these headlines, because it
tends to make people complacent. Confidence is one thing, but cockiness is another. As another DU'er pointed out, we are still 4-1/2 weeks out, anything can happen. I'm hoping the internal polling is off the charts.

16. Or energize them. Who knows what the strategy is? I take exception
to the author of the article quoting some anonymous Sr. campaign aide. For me, it sounds presumptuous, and I think it makes younger Obama supporters think he's got this thing in the bag, when that's not necessarily the case. Case in point, R&B artist Joe as of a couple of weeks ago wasn't even registered because he figured since Obama was up in the polls that his vote wouldn't make a difference. Thanks to Tom Joyner, Joe is now registered, and advising other youngsters like himself, that they need to register and show up on election day. Just sayin'......

Its about the down tickets races, 70+ seats in the House and 12 in the Senate, thats what is at stake. A Super Majority.

23. I agree with you as well, which is why I don't like to hear Obama "aides"
saying how we've got this thing all wrapped up. Granted, this reporter could be full of shit, but I don't want us to get cocky.

24. Tell O's aides to watch "Murder, Spies, Voting Lies" and get back with me.
They might lose a little of their optimism.

I have no doubt O will get a landslide of votes. But I'm almost certain that landslide will not be reflected in the results coming from the electronic voting machines and central tabulators as posted during the cool cool of the evening.

It's nice to have a certain audacity of hope along with the harmlessness of doves, but it might also be good to add a little of the wisdom of serpents to that mix. I haven't seen any signs that O is very aware of the vote theft machines that count the votes and the machinations that suppress the electorate.
