Where did that number come from?

I confess to not knowing the source of this widely proffered talking point by right wing asshats.

I **have** heard the good guys state in clear, unequivocal language that no one under $250K will see new taxes,a people under $150 will se an actual tax cut.

So what is the basis for the $42,000 charge?

(Note: 'they lie' is not the answer I'm looking for. I already know that.)

2. In all seriousness, I think that "they lie" is the only viable answer.

There's no way on God's green earth that they could ever have legitimately come up with that number.

As far as I am concerned, they pulled it out of their asses to scare people.

3. It's a puzzlement

Not only does it seem to be pulled from a fecal elimination orifice, but $42k a year is different all over the US. In some places, you can raise a family of four on that nicely. In Los Angeles, you are lucky to support yourself on that amount.
