"You can't look toward the past"
I was working late tonight as were a lot of other people. My plan was to watch it later with my wife, but somebody at work put the debate up on a projector and a bunch of people were sitting there watching it, plus my coworkers dragged me in there.

The part that I saw, which wasn't much admittedly, had Palin saying several times that "You have to look toward the future, not dwell on the past." This really fucking pisses me off! It's like saying don't use your memory to make choices, forget all that. Forget that McCain was all for this stuff that's really screwed up the country, like the Iraq war, deregulation, veteran's benefits, just forget all that. Forget that I've been beating you for the last 26 years, look to the future.

Well, Bucko, God gave us a frickin' memory so we could use past experiences to predict future events! If every time we slap our hands on a burning stove and it hurts like hell, it's a good bet that doing it again will likewise hurt like hell. We may, if we figure out the pattern, decide not to do that again. It's like saying, "I don't want to run on my record." Maybe that's because McCain's record sucks like an army of shop vacs orbiting a black hole, and I am going to make a decision based on how much it's likely to suck based on that aforementioned record.

No dice, Squareglasses.

I'd have preferred that Biden directly call it a world class con job,
Not unlike unlocking all the prisons & saying whatever happened was in the past.

1. Yes, there is that. Also, the * Administration is not the past...
unfortunately! McSame is the third * term. Palin did not prove any different tonight. She doesn't make sense.

2. i react to that strongly also, it's an emblematic sleight-of-hand tactic
they use. when they've totally messed something up, they always say: "there'll be time to play the blame game later, now we have to deal with the problem." then, when the problem is over with, they always say: "we need to put that behind us and look forward."

3. "what ever you do don't look back at those interviews I did"
It's a silly position. Don't use your experience to make up your mind about the future.

4. Common GOP tactic.
Like the mess in Iraq: Well, we're there. Let's just talk about where we go from here and how we can all work together to help our commander in chief do what he wants. My head hurts when you talk about the lies that got us there and who told them. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

6. Yeah exactly
Don't look at the fact that Bush screwed it up royally (not sure this is actually true), he can get us out of the mess. And I heard her say now isn't the time to be pointing fingers. Like during Katrina, now's not the time to look at who fucked this up so bad (again, not sure it was fucked up so much as purposefull), let's just do something about it. Like what, give the land to GOP-friendly business people? At some point we have to say that we don't want the same crowd around for the next disaster.

5. It's part of the right wing effort to keep people stupid,

so they will keep voting for them. History - REAL history - is dangerous to them. That's why the only kind of education they favor is vocational. They are called the "liberal arts" for a reason!

8. I guess that is the latest talking point-
it's not time to fix blame, no time to be pointing fingers, no looking to the past. I think that's because all the shit that is happening now is due to the failed policies of the administration that has run the country for the last eight years-A REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION. So, no blame may be affixed, no fingers pointed. Because they know they are responsible for all of this. But, if the past eight years had been a Democratic administration, those fingers would be pointing like a m**th**fucker.
