Dean informs America about the Bush Tax
I'm seeing a lot of people showing concern about Dean's position on taxes. Normally I would agree that his position might scare some voters off. However, Howard Dean knows how to frame things and explain them in a way people can relate to. Here is what he's telling people, and it will sell to voters.

8. I've been posting it as a response to every post I see critical of Dean's
position on taxes. Spread the link everywhere. Print out the information for your state and go door to door with it. Bush's tax cut was nothing but a covert tax hike.

2. Thanks for the link... I'm curious,
what's your position on Clark's Tax Plan? He just announced it yesterday.

I'm now just looking at Dean's, thanks to your link...

5. I don't like Clark's plan. We can't afford more cuts.
At some point...once everything else is sorted out, the deficit is gone, the budget is balanced, our kids have good schools, renewable energy is implemented, everyone has healthcare and all our citizens are equal under the law...then it would be worth discussing.

I get the impression that Clark is trying to out-Bush Bush with this plan. I oppose his plan because our country can't afford it, period. I don't want my children and grandchildren paying our deficits.

10. There's another problem with Clark's tax plan...
...it's called Congress. They'll eliminate any "punative" measures against the wealthy, remove removals of corporate loopholes, and then warp it all to hell. Then Clark will have to veto it, or he'll be doing the SAME THING Bush has been doing (granting giveaways with no revenue reimbursement), and if he does veto, or threatens to veto, he'll be "against tax cuts" and/or "for a tax increase" and/or "vetoing his own bill". Let them frame the debate, we lose.

17. You represent a bizarre, and thankfully small, faction of leftist voters
Who actually want taxes to increase.

Balancing the budget has nothing to do with raising middle class taxes. It has to do with spending and priorities.

19. Now that's hilarious considering I'm a bona-fide swing voting Independent
I'm not a liberal, not a leftist and not even a Democrat. I don't mind paying my share of taxes as long as my contribution is being spent for the right things. Howard Dean wants to spend them on the right things.

Our country cannot afford more tax cuts. I don't want my kids paying for this mess.

9. Bingo
His position on this makes him just as bad as Bush on the economy, in my opinion.

13. You obviously don't know much about Dean, do you?
He sure doesn't live like a "rich man". His house is about the same size as mine and my car is actually newer than his old rusted out Bronco/Blazer (can't remember which it is he drives). His parents did live in an affluent area of NYC, but they lived in an apartment, not a mansion. He got all of $40,000 from his father, which he invested. He's a self made man.

14. And now for the facts....
What about Dean's tax history as Governor?

Governor Dean will be the most fiscally responsible President in recent history. His Republican successor in Vermont said, "Howard and I have been good partners in the fiscal stewardship of the state. ... I want to continue that record of fiscal responsibility." (Gov. Jim Douglas , quoted by the Times Argus, 1/9/03)

The Herald of Randolph editorialized that, "On taxes and business-precisely the issues that are so important today-Howard Dean has had to keep a tight rein on the liberal wing of his party. It's why he's been a good governor-and why he is still despised by many liberals." (Herald of Randolph, Editorial, 10/2/02, )

The Stranger, Seattle's independent weekly, aptly summarized Dean's fiscal responsibility, saying, "He cut the state income tax twice, reduced Vermont's debt, and built up a rainy-day fund--and, again, much of this was done in the face of opposition from his own party and with the support of moderate Republicans. He left office with an indelible record as a fiscal conservative, and left Vermont's fiscal house in the best shape of any of the New England states'. His conservative successor, Republican Jim Douglas, actually praised Dean's policies in an April speech." (Sandeep Kaushik, "Tough Guy," The Stranger, 5/15/03, ).

Clearly, it's not Dean you have to worry about regarding tax policy.

What is Rev. Al Sharpton's tax policy, again?

16. And the liklihood that the mass public will visit this website is?
Clark's tax plan, on the otherhand, is something he can run and win on.

Btw, much of my state tax increased under Clinton.

18. got some falsehoods in there
at least as far as Virginia is concerned. The causes of the problems are due to insanely rosy projections from Clinton era governor which led to reduction of state taxes. The dot come bubble burst, the projections went to hell all before Bush's tax cuts.

And much the same thing has occurred most everywhere else.

Try again Dr Dean.
