Palin’s new plan: Go after Biden
ST. LOUIS – Sarah Palin plans to go on the attack in tonight’s debate, hitting Joe Biden for what she will call his foreign policy blunders and penchant for adopting liberal positions on taxes and other issues, according to campaign officials involved in prepping her for tonight’s showdown.

The Palin camp is projecting surprising self-confidence in the pre-debate hours, despite the vice presidential nominee’s uneven – and, at some points, peculiar – performances in recent television interviews, the officials say. Top advisers to John McCain privately say Palin’s recent CBS interview was a borderline disaster, especially since it played out in several segments over several days. Tonight will be different, they say.

“This is going to finally put her back into a position where we see her like we saw her the first couple weeks,” a McCain official said. “She was herself. She was authentic, and people related to that. … Tonight, she’ll get into a rhythm. You’re going to see her in a way that you haven’t seen her yet.”

By contrast, Biden plans what an aide calls "a just-the-facts, prosecutorial approach laying out the case against McCain and defending Obama." The aide said Biden will be "keeping the eye on the target, which is McCain."

1. How offensive - the idea that a nobody like Palin would attack someone like Biden...
I hope people respond the way they did to McCain's nastiness!

2. Good, I hope she does.
Because whether she sees it or not, Biden is a funny, likeable guy, who related well to working-class people. No, he wasn't my first choice for Pres or even Veep, but he is funny, smart, has a great smile, and will do just fine if she tries to attack him.

I don't think (if this is true) she could have chosen a strategy that would backfire more, or that at least has the potential of backfiring more.

7. Who cares
Attacking the bottom of the ticket gets you no where. No one is voting for OBama based on Biden. Biden will be attacking McCain, Bush and no doubt reminding voters of Palin flubs this past week.

8. The potential flaw in that plan:
To attack Biden on his voting record means she will have been crammed full of examples over the past few days.

She's not that good at keeping information straight, so the risk is high that she will jumble the facts to the degree that her arguments will be incomprehensible.

9. Aggression without brains -- oy.
So Sarah Palin is leaping right into the arms -- or is it the ring of hell? -- occupied by Karl Rove, Lee Atwater, Steve Schmidt, and Richard Nixon. That says more about her character, or the lack of it, and intellectual capacity, or the lack of it, than anything...

“This is going to finally put her back into a position where we see her like we saw her the first couple weeks.”

What does that mean??? All she did was read a teleprompter and lie her ass off. This should be fun!!!!

13. If thats her tactic, all Joe needs to do is stay cool & politely push her to explain her position.
We have seen that Sarah can recite quick talking points without a problem. But when she actually has to explain any details behind the merits of the message, she has an incoherent anxiety attack.

Joe needs to use his kinder side to his advantage and be disarmingly respectful and keep her in the position of having to answer for herself. I think after a few minutes of that, she will wear out and attempt to stick more to answering the moderators questions.

14. yes
it sounds like "liberal" is going to be the alcohol poisoning buzz word tonight. How creative. I'm still not quite sure how the debate format is going to work out.

as McAngry and McMean? That really hasn't been working lately - especially in debates.

20. Maybe she intends to "Go After Biden" literally...
as in "let him answer first" - or, on the other hand, maybe she intends to "Go after Biden" with her crossbow.
