I don't buy that line of crap. It IS time to pay attention to the polls. It's like the people who say "don't worry, we can get Halloween candy the day before Halloween", and then you forget to go or the stores are cleaned out of the good stuff and all the kids are going to come to your door and be pissed off you gave them a piece of Bazooka Bubble Gum.

It IS TIME to start paying attention to the polls. Thanks for your concern.

1. Yep. After Labor Day, it counts.
And, especially after the first debate.

Everywhere I go, people are talking about the election.

2. Yes, but who's saying that right now? Freepers?
I haven't seen a poll recently that I wasn't happy with.

3. Let's be honest though... if we were LOSING right now...
We'd be saying the same thing.

6. Right here on DU, everyday
"Oooh don't pay attention to the polls, they don't mean anything." I replied to a long-standing member this morning about this which is why I created this thread.

If we don't start to watch the polls now, when should we, November 5th?

4. Agree, and soon it will be time to lock the polls
I've personally been involved in several campaigns as a candidate for local office and a campaign manager and have always noticed that before Labor Day people would really not be focused on elections or the candidates. You could talk to them and easily see that they were not ready to turn their attention towards an election.

However, after Labor Day, and especially later in September and very early October, people start to seriously consider the issues and the candidates. Where they'd be hesitant to discuss it earlier in the Summer they suddenly would engage in long and serious discussions with you and be more committal about where they stood and who they supported.

One more thing I always noticed. Starting about 2 weeks before the election when you spoke to them you'd find that they had already made up their mind and nothing was going to change it at that point. It is my opinion that whoever has the lead by October 20 is not going to lose it.

5. Sure there is one poll worth considering... Obama's internal poll
We're not really privy to that one on a daily basis. If you're telling me I should pay attention to some media driven poll like ABC/Wallstreet poll then... NO! Those kinds of polls are untrustworthy. Democrats have an 11 million registrant edge over the GOP. And I am supposed to believe everything Chuck Todd tells me? NO!

9. Exactly.
Also, Halloween candy is on sale right now and to wait would just be dumb.

10. When I was a kid, if we got crappy Halloween candy, the house
would "get it" in return over the next couple of nights. Back in the day, you didn't get sued for 'egging' a house, and next Halloween, the treats were amazing.
